new boiler needed, cost?

a heating engineer suggested that a good boiler would cost £2,000, is that right? there seem so many for sale cheaper. It's only a small 3 bed house so don't need anything too flash!

Do you get WTC working tax credit? If so you can get one for free, Google it.

Is that £2,000 all told or £2,000 plus fitting?

I would say that £2,000 including necessary work doesn't seem excessive, but I am no expert.

You have to get a suitably sized boiler and it's worth getting a good brand with a good efficiency rating. Which boiler is he suggesting? Are there any extra works, e.g. fitting thermostatic valves on radiators?

This is why it's expensive.

We paid £2900 for Worcester Bosch combi boiler, power flush and removal of old boiler and water tanks x3. That was the cheapest quote we got for everything. We're in se. We went for the Worcester because they have a good reputation, but also because it came with an 8 year warranty.

I paid £900 for mine.

£600 for boiler.

£300 fitting.

Local plumber, and he told me which boiler would be most suitable (small 3 bed house also). I ordered it and paid for it directly then paid the plumber for fitting.

Very happy. :) 2 years down the line....

DH is a plumber. Decent boiler is around £750. His fee around £500 if he's doing a power flush as well but that is for a very straight forward swap. Plus any radiator valves/ new thermostat etc. £2000 isn't totally out of it if it includes fitting.

Ask him for a full breakdown of costs (including make/model of boiler, approx pipe work lengths needed, all materials) and his labour. Then ring your local plumb centre and ask them to give you the prices for what he said he's going to buy. You'll soon see where he's adding in extras (if he his)

Seriously do you get WTC? if you do you are very likely to be entitled to a free replacement. I was, just a few weeks ago, was astounded as I didn't think I qualified.
