How do I remove the mould stuck in the straw of my DD's beaker?

I've tried leaving it in very hot washing up water for a couple of hours and held it straight under the tap in the hope that the mouldy bits would wash off. But no, they stuck fast. Yesterday I ran it through the dishwasher. If anything the mold seems to have grown bigger! Yuk.

Any other suggestions bar binning the damn thing?

I binned ds and he was not impressed as it wsa his spiderman cup. Had to go out and buy a new cup[minus straw] for him.

nicnack2 · 31/07/2006 19:48

soak in bicarbonate of soda

MrsJohnCusack · 31/07/2006 19:48

what about those little brushes you clean bottles with? i've got one with quite a long handle (never used on bottles, but have used it on cups/beaker spouts)

I'd just bin it though, but I'm quite lazy and impatient

Isn't the mould good for their immune systems? that's what I tell myself....am too slutty sometimes

albatros · 31/07/2006 19:50

Pipe cleaner?

NottsMum · 31/07/2006 20:07

Blimey, I hadn't expected so many replies! Hmm, I expect they'll be tears if I bin it, so had better try something else [though perhaps not the soaking in bleach ] I'll go with the bicarb of soda suggestion as I have no bottle brush or pipecleaners handy!

I cut a cotton bud in half and stuck the hard end in and it dislodged the mould and then it washed out with warm water

or failing that, stick a cotton bud (cotton end in) but if the straw is narrow, you may need to unwrap a bit of the cotton
