Grease stains on oak flooring - any ideas how to get rid?

So, baking tray with sausages fell (don't ask Hmm) - sausages rolled everywhere and now there are obvious stains where the tray fell and fat spattered and where the sausages rolled on the oak planks in the kitchen.

They've not shifted with scrubbing and usual oak floor cleaner although the floor is now generally a lot cleaner than previously Grin.

Any ideas?
Or should I just oil the whole floor and be done with it?

cat litter Is meant to absorb grease stains from concrete - it might work on any porous substance. probably worth a try anyway as it can't do any harm.

or fullers earth? that is supposed to be good at removing oil stains fro non washable fabrics e.g. silk.

Now I'd do a test patch but have you any off cuts to test it on? Brown absorbent wrapping paper then start with a low iron, if paper absorbs grease, it's working. Be very very careful x

I was going to suggest Shona's method too as it works on candle grease and carpets, but I would use a few layers of kitchen paper rather than brown as it is more absorbent. But do take care.

White spirit will clean off grease. But how were these boards finished? Lacquer, wax, or bare (absorbent) timber?
