My machine shreds clothes rather than wash them!

I have a bosch washer dryer, one year old, that has been shredding clothes off and on since we bought it. According to Bosch this is entirely my fault as I must be either over-filling the machine (occasionally guilty) or washing items on the wrong setting (also occasionally guilty). But since my old zanussi did this for ten years without shredding a single item, how is it that I am the one now being unreasonable? Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you checked the paddles on the drum? Maybe one has got loose and is trapping clothes.

Is the rubber door seal fitted properly?

I've had an engineer out twice to check the machine but they can't find a fault which is why they have decided that it must be down to me.I'll check the machine myself as you suggested later just in case.

Would it help to break up rhe liad a bit by putting some of the more traily clothes (e.g. long-sleeved men's shirts) in a laundry bag, in case it is the tangling which causes the clothes to rip?

Also maybe try the wool cycle, which doesn't agitate very much at all (follow it by a spin dry). If even that shreds clothes, your engineers should stop blaming you!

break up the load

apologies for the fat fingered typing!

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly give all that a try. I'm just absolutely livid that I'm supposed to accept washing machines shredding clothes in this day and age after having washed the same way for nearly 20 years! (Now I really feel old). Apparently new washing machines are terribly sensitive and in order to be Eco friendly I'm now expected to do four separate washes to cater for all the different types of fabrics instead of one! (Doesn't sound so Eco friendly to me....)

Omg I have the same machine and have had the same problem since day one! Away to read the hints on this thread now to see what I can do to help it!

I am going through same process at moment Bosch washer shredding clothes. Had 3 engineer visits they have replaced the drum, door seal and yesterday sent an engineer to replace the door seal again. As they said the first one was not fitted right. Absolute rubbish. The engineer Took various pictures of damaged clothing. They said they won't be replacing the machine. Won't be buying Bosch again. Next it will be my fault for doing the washing. Not amused

I had this last year with a Bosch washing machine. I got a refund. I put a pair of tights over my hand and rubbed it around the drum and found the sharp holes in the drum snagged the tights so I showed the engineer this. I had this happen with more than one machine and it seemed to be each machine had rough surface around the holes that caused the clothes to snag.

Spoke to Bosch today about this and they still maintain that this is entirely my fault but have agreed to send my complaint to their technical director for final assessment. Apparently I'll hear back in around 7-10 days. I think their argument is totally unsatisfactory. I really don't think I'll be buying Bosch again either, especially as my Bosch coffee machine malfunctioned are only one week too. No decent washing machine and no decent coffee presents a critical situation in my book!
Please keep posting if you have had similar issues as this gives us all greater ammunition. I've even gone back to Which? with my feedback on this machine as I bought it on their recommendation. I'll let you know if they come back to me with any further information.

Very sorry to read this about Bosch especially as I was about to buy one of their washing machines. Well done for contacting Which as they often recommend Bosch appliances. I have a basic Zanusssi which is dying and I have had a few instances of holes appearing in clothes. I think they may be due to zips or metal buttons on other clothing inside the machine, although I am reasonably careful and always wash jeans separately anyway. Hope your problem is resolved quickly.

Yes, I don't think Bosch are that great. I paid quite a bit of money for a Bosch Iron last week and it's rubbish. Wen't a bought another cheap iron in the sales and it is so much better.
