Arghhh DP has put a saucepan of pasta straight onto the wooden work surface from the hob and it has burnt a huge dark ring into the wood. Shock can't leave him alone for five minutes!!!

Does anyone know how to get rid of/ disguise it? We rent so I'm freaking out!!!
HELP

Ps have tried to sand down the dark bit and it still looks exactly the same Hmm

Keep going with the sanding then lots of oil

I think the tool you need is called a plane, if you know anyone with these things; they slice a very thin piece off which turns into a curl, otherwise I think you'd need to sand for hours.
Alternatively, is it possible to try bleaching a small area to lighten colour, then rinse?

keep sanding!

what do you use on the wood? we have osmo hard wax oil and I often put pans straight from the hob on to the worktop.

I certainly wouldn't use a plane. Sand it. Clean away all dust and grit very thoroughly before you re-oil.

oily or waxed wood is very difficult and slow to sand because it clogs the grit.

...and unless you are very competent with DIY, don't even try it.

not ideal to have this in a rented property but there you go. Your tenants contents insurance may cover this kind of accidental damage to landlord property so have a look at that.

it's not wear and tear, but unless the kitchen was new last year your landlord won't get the full value out of your deposit when you leave, because there are wear and tear allowances.

meanwhile buy a worktop saver, hit your husband over the head with it and show him what it is for.
