bowls of salt work.
We left some in our caravan over the winter and they were really wet!

You can get crystals from hardware shops and places like Wilkinsons/Woolies. They tend to be labelled things like -refill for moisture trap. I haven't got the actual moisture trap but just put them in an old container.

They are dangerous if eaten and I don't think you can touch them with your bare hands so they have to be out the way of any child.

Its about £5 for a huge tub. They sort of dissolve into a liquid as they absorb and can be flushed down sink/toilet when they are completely dissolved and you just replace them.

I have a very damp bathroom and they are brilliant! (and cheap). Calcium Carbonate or something like that.

The second and third ones on this page can be 'recharged' by plugging into mains or putting in microwave.

Forgot to say my £5 tub has lasted about 6 months and I replace them at least once a week (its still half full)

I could sell you a dehumidifier...but I'm in the north of scotland...?

Cappucino · 25/07/2006 21:56

ta bramblina

actually my mum has just swopped one with her neighbour for some plants! I didn't want it though cos there's not really enough room, also it cost her so much to run

I'm going to try this crystals malarkey, but thanks
