To try to cut a long story short, I went away to the East Coast this weekend with friends and kids. One of my friend recommedned this "absolutely beautiful beach, stretches for miles" so we all trouped out.

The orangey muddy mess that is smeared over mine and DSs clothes won't rinse out. I daren't wash it in case it sets in. I don't even know what it is to try a stain removal technique. It looks like our clothes have been scorched.

Has anyone got any ideas on what on earth could have caused the stain? I do seem to recall there were a few brown bubbles riding the crest of the waves....

Help, please!!

(I suppose if all else fails, I could bin my DS's t-shirt, but there is absolutely no way I am going to admit that I was wearing my absolutely brand new pale blue linen skirt on the beach, no way, no sirreee, not me).

If you're prepared to bin your DS's T-shirt, why not use that and try various things out on it to see what works best, then use that one on your skirt? Sorry, no more constructive suggestions. Maybe someone else will be able to help...

Thats not a bad idea actually JackieNo. What alarms me the most is that his t-shirt is white and I took to bleaching it. I just had a poke at it, and the stain is still there

rust?

I'd bet on oil, but if the beach was really deserted no idea where it would come from. I know that if you're around a harbour it can get a bit messy.

It is the same colour as rust Fish. But I suspect it came from the "sea bubbles". Does rust form bubbles?
(I don't really want to think about the bubbles and why I went in the sea after I saw them. Yak)

Ah, now I have just had a look at the Atlas, and the beach was at Theddlethorpe, which is just south of the mouth of the Humber Estuary, so oil is a distinct possibility. So is rust with all those rotting ships. And poo.

May start a thread titled "Does anyone know of any nice beaches" and hope my friend doesn't post
