Black mould on bath sealant

snowyowl70 · 04/01/2014 21:09

Our old bath sealant never turned black even after 12 years but new sealant ( was replaced when new tiles fitted) has turned mouldy after 18 months ?? Do I have to remove and start again - I believe it's a messy job -or is there something I can use to treat it and prevent it recurring ?

Squirt loads of thick bleach on it. Put rolled up loo roll, kitchen roll or cotton wool on it and leave overnight. Peal off and rinse. Worked a treat for me

Ok - why the loo roll ?? Willing to give anything a go !

I bought some Cillit Bang bleach spray today for bathrooms. Left it on my grouting and bath sealant for 15 mins. Wiped away easily and removed 99% of the mould! Was on offer in Asda for £2.

white vinegar works, i also got a cheapy mould remover spray from pound shop which has also helped, it doesn't go completely but goes very pale brown ime

Would a steam cleaner get rid of the black stuff? I'v just bought one.

Mehrida · 04/01/2014 21:22

Thanks for the bleach tips, I have this problem too. Tried Cilit Bang to no avail so bogroll here we come!

gallicgirl · 04/01/2014 21:22

Not really but it helps.
Try HG mould remover.

HG mould spray. Seriously the best thing ever. I was despairing about the mould in my bathroom until I used this stuff. I bought it in b&q and it's also available at Lakeland.

Loo roll and bleach in place - will post the result in the morning !!

Yes, just bleach and keep on using the bleach before the mould re-appears.

snowyowl70 · 05/01/2014 16:18

Looks a lot better but discovered on closer examination that the sealant is coming away in some areas which makes it look discoloured !

We get mould on the walls of our toilet where the steam from shower collects. We literally just leave bleach on there for 15 minutes then wipe it down. I get it collected on the tiles as well ,but it isn't silicone between them ,it's the harder white stuff (?) once ,a scouring pad and bleach solves that problem :)

HG mould spray really works. It's brilliant!
