If you had to compile a cleaning kit what would be your top 5 items? Top tip items welcomed!

I gt a Karcher steam cleaner for Christmas and am finding I don't need cleaners I used to use - such as one for washing tile floors. So I would invest in good tools and eliminate a bunch of cleaners (toxic or otherwise) altogether (and save a lot of time).

DH

Soda crystals (for plugholes, floors, washing machine, clothes...)
White vinegar (for plugholes, washing machine)
Zoflora (because I like the way it smells, multipurpose, disinfectant, little goes a long way)
Microfibre cloths (for cleaning and drying)
E-cloth mop (duster head & cleaning head, for all non-carpet floors)
Rubber broom (for carpets)
Dustbuster (just got one and great fpr quick clearup of DS' crumbs!)
Bleach (for toilet)

Technically a bit more than 5 but that's pretty everything I use Smile

for and pretty much

I love my H20 Steam Mop. The kids (19&17) had a proper "it's not fair, you did it last time,it's my turn, mum tell him" row over who mopped the floor earlier!Grin

White vinegar for windows, mirrors, bathroom tiles

Micro fibre cloths

Ovenmate

HG Mould Remover (but I can't use it because if the smell, DH has to do it)

Supermarket brand toilet duck for the bog.
Supermarket knock-off cilit bang for the bathroom.
Shop-brand cleaner for glass hobs (bastard things).
Supermarket brand dettox-stuff for surfaces.
Supermarket brand floor cleaner for tiled floors; we are tiled throughout).

Other than that, a mix of lemon juice, baking soda and hot water for other things like bathroom mould, cleaning the oven etc.

Those of you who use white vinegar to clean windows and mirrors, how? On a cloth? Diluted?

daisydee43 · 04/01/2014 12:32

I got a h20 steamer but don't think it can replace bleach - it cleans ok but I'm not convinced yet

Celia, I use windolene, the old fashioned pink cream and its brilliant

delasi · 04/01/2014 13:28

Celia I don't use vinegar on mirrors (just use a microfibre glass cloth), however on windows I was always told to get some old newspaper, scrunch it up, shake some vinegar on it and get buffing. When the streaks or marks or gone (surprisingly quick, actually), use dry newspaper to clean up the edges and do a final buff. I've tried other window cleaning products out of curiosity but I find the newspaper and vinegar works best - maybe because I'm used to it, I don't know, but it works!

MrsBungle · 04/01/2014 13:31

I use the h20 for cleaning floors and the oven and grout.

I need bleach for the toilet
Dishwasher tablets
A general cleaning spray
That's all I really use.
Oh i do use window cleaning wipes on my patio doors glass fire and mirrors.

IamInvisible · 04/01/2014 19:07

Celia I dilute it with water in a spray bottle.

Spray it on, and wipe it off with one of these. They say they work with just water, but I find diluted white vinegar is better.
