Organising child's toys

I am just wondering how other people store and organise small children's toys in such a way that a) they don't take over the house, and b), the house isn't taken over by plastic and MDF storage systems.

DS ha just turned one an what with all his birthday and Christmas presents, we could now open a small toy shop. We're got everything from large vtech toys, to megabloks to wooden toys to toot toot cars and track. We were thinking of lots of boxes/ baskets on shelves in his room, and bringing a couple down stairs at a time. Do people think this works, or is an idealistic myth for the super organised?

TIA

I don't know what the ideal solution is, but you're wise to put something in place now, while he's young.
I wish we had. We've 3 boys now and the toys are the bane of my life...

Hello equi we have one of the cream ottoman things from argos. It comes in extra large and is really comfy to sit on. Downstairs we have a large wicker chest.

We are investing in expedit fom ikea.

We have expedit in various places and use drona boxes to store the toys. For a little one, it probably is a good idea to fill each box with a selection of toys and switch the boxes in and out
