Leather sofa?

Ok, I've randomly bought a dark green leather sofa on ebay (as you do). How do you keep leather clean? I've never had leather anything, really.

is it dirty already then?

Lakeland do wipes, I bought them for the leather in my car. Although as I'm a complete slob I haven't actually gotten around to using them yet.

Here

we buy leather wipes - i think lakeland do them, but am pretty sure we got ours from the the big supermarket. they're like babywipes and are cheap.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/07/2006 21:44

Well, it's used. And it will no doubt be dirty.

But no, I just just just won it, so afaik it's clean.

I have a whole other house to fill with random furniture and crap, so am a bit rushed and random with it.

Why not make a list of everything you need and go to a few auction houses - you would be able to give things a better check over than ebay stuff.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 21:46

well anyway, not that I have lots of leather furniture, but don't you just wipe it with a wet cloth? special "leather wipes" sound about as necessary as teapot cleaner to me.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/07/2006 21:47

Hmm, that sounds practical, but much too organised.

I have guests coming in just over a week, and am not that bothered about stuff - sofa was the real issue, we do have some beds. And we'll just sort out the rest as we go on.

The sofa is a bit of a chance, but we didn't pay much for it (duh) and we'll see how we get on with it.

I use a tea towel or a wet wipe but then I am a slut.

Baby wipes. They're fab

Lact8 · 21/07/2006 21:50

Baby wipes always do the trick for me and I always have loads of those in so never have to remember to buy something especially to clean them

And can rope ds2 into helping too

peanutbutter · 21/07/2006 21:52

the ones we bought (which have lasted ages) have oil added to them, supposedly to nourish the leather. Can a dead animal's hide be nourished? anyway, they make it nice and gleaming looking. Babywipes might do the same...dunno.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/07/2006 22:22

What about cats? I'm worried our cats will claw the sofas and damage them ...

OP posts:
peanutbutter · 21/07/2006 22:32

yep. ours jumped on/off & left scratch marks - she'd never gone on furniture before but started to use it to get to the window. the oil in the leatherwipes does help diminish how they look but if your cats are used to going on the furniture (and ours wasn't) then you're going to have a scratched leather sofa i'm afraid.
