What's in your hall?

So it's 4 days before Christmas Day. Here's what's in my hall, spread across 2 tables and the floor:

Vase of half-dead flowers, advent calendar, wall-clock (but not on the wall), a pile of magazines, an empty jiffy bag, a stanley knife, 1 tower of 3 boxes containing the rest of the Christmas decors which we cba to put up, a new headlamp unit (enormous) for my car, 12 bottles of wine, DH's briefcase, laptop bag and work rucksack, DH's old rucksack, a bag for the charity shop, a huge empty cardboard box ('because it might be useful), 2 pairs of DH's gloves, 2 of DH's hats (hmm, I'm starting to see a pattern), various candles in holders.

All downstairs rooms are cluttered with stuff in the wrong places. The tidiest room is our bedroom, but I'm not serving Christmas dinner in there.

I feel some serious decluttering coming on!!

What's your house like today?

Coats on coathooks and a big mirror on the wall. Mon-Thurs eve we also have DHs bike in the hallAngry

We live in a victorian terraced house and the hall is ridiculously narrowSad

PigletJohn · 22/12/2013 16:32

if you search "hall cabinet" there are made narrow so easier to walk past.

I also had an aunt who had what I would call a dresser - drawers, narrow top, mirror, narrow top shelf

Mary1972 · 22/12/2013 17:00

I try to keep it 100% clear but it's hard with a lot of children in the house.
Large Christmas tree
A few items due to be taken to the charity shop (we have a place just behind the tree where they are kept for a few days before being taken)
school bags, school shoes
assorted pile of about 6 pairs of shoes from 3 sons
That is it (it does not mean the rest of the house is perfect however although it's not too bad now the children are older as we're all pretty tidy)

17leftfeet · 22/12/2013 17:10

I don't have a hall -my front door opens straight into my living room

Unless I've been getting it wrong all these years and its actually an oversized hall and I've got one less reception room?

In which case I've got 2 sofas, a bookcase, tv, Christmas tree, cat climbing tree, a pile of clean washing waiting for the dcs to put away
And strangely, a toilet seat!

CointreauVersial · 22/12/2013 17:13

Nothing, nowt, nada. Apart from a doormat.

Our hallway is a narrow corridor with lots of doorways opening off it, and there physically isn't any room for furniture or "stuff".

Sometimes DS leaves a pair of shoes there, but I usually chuck them into his bedroom within hours of them appearing.

Feeling inadequate that there isn't room for a piano. Just like Pigletjohn, ours is in the minstrel's gallery. Grin

Floralnomad · 22/12/2013 17:17

My hall is always tidy as it doubles as the dogs bedroom . It has a hat/ coat stand with too many coats on it ,3 umbrellas , the dogs bed and blankets and a water bowl . It's probably the tidiest room in my house.

UsedToBeNDP · 22/12/2013 17:17

Sorry, piglet was eating but yes, I have a piano in my hall. It's an upright though, not a baby grand, so don't get too excited Grin

LovelyMarchHare · 22/12/2013 17:25

I HATE clutter in the hallway. Makes me feel depressed.

mumblechum1 · 22/12/2013 17:30

My hall has a cool black console table with two black and silver lamps on it at one end and a walnut table with drawers at the other end.

I'm another who doesn't like clutter in the hall.

Fortunately DS is out otherwise his size 12s would be right in the middle of the rug Xmas Grin

Onesleeptillwembley · 22/12/2013 17:31

Two children's bikes!!! Only until Christmas Eve and the big swap begins. Next door but 2 will pick them up and I'll get my Turkey crown from over the road's garage freezer.

octopusinasantasack · 22/12/2013 17:34

A piano, a chair and an occasional table.

HerlockSholmes · 22/12/2013 17:36

i am smug. there is nothing in my hall apart from the doormat and ds'wellies Grin .

if you had asked me 3 hours ago i could have written you a massive list but i got on with christmas cleaning today after spending all day yesterday in bed with a sickness bug.

Earningsthread · 22/12/2013 17:38

Currently in the hall is a georgian tea-table with a vase of flowers. At the opposite end there is a massive christmas tree with lots of presents underneath it. Along one wall there is a bizarre sort of display cabinet which houses some odd things. Like medals won by someone long-dead and some georgian silver. The cabinet is snoring boring but there is an interesting painting hanging above.

Lj8893 · 22/12/2013 19:52

Pram, carseat (I don't have a car ATM), a couple of coats on the stair bannister, empty Xmas tree box under the stairs, few pairs of shoes (neatly lined up though thank god), hanging on hooks is a scarf, torch, house keys, DPs bike key, and dd snowsuit.
All of this stuff belongs in my hall.

What doesn't belong is the 5 huge packs of laminate and the 3 rolls of underlay which belong to my dad. Even though I ask him everyday to pick it up. Angry

woooooooobooo · 22/12/2013 20:04

I have a massive range cooker still wrapped as kitchen not delivered yet, a pram, tumble drier, golf clubs, pasting table and copious rolls of paper honest the bathroom will be done for Christmas said in August, a sky plus box, a keyboard and a piano. Victorian mid terrace with massive hall which unfortunately seconds as a dumping ground. We're in competition with out neighbours who have an entire kitchen and bathroom suite in theirs

woooooooobooo · 22/12/2013 20:06

Can I add I detest clutter and have taken to keeping the lights off Sad

YuleNeverKnow · 22/12/2013 21:42

pigletjohn we rented a house on holiday once which had a minstrels' gallery ... the children laid chocolate Minstrels along the banister Xmas Grin DH fantasises dreams about having a baby grand in the hall but it wouldn't fit, even if we took everything else out.

Nods approvingly at woos pasting table: our hall is ideal for that too. Just for once we are not actually decorating.

Well done to Herlock for decluttering. My other rooms are better now as well - I can see the top of the dining table, yay!

Mirror & hall runner.
3 pairs of shoes lined up neatly.

DH would still describe it as a 'pigsty' and get himself a tiz though drama queen

FionasFatFairy · 22/12/2013 22:05

Coats on pegs (too many according to DH), hats and gloves on shelf above pegs, one pair of wellies (worn today so drying), mine and DH's boots (also worn today so a bit muddy)

tassisssss · 22/12/2013 22:06

mine is actually EMPTY. There's a playmobil nativity scene on the window sill but that's it.

QuintessentialShadows · 22/12/2013 22:07

Tidy and clean.

Just need to hoover one room, and we are ready for Christmas.

Also have to do some minor grocery shopping. Vegetables and milk.

QuintessentialShadows · 22/12/2013 22:08

Oh, and whats in the hall?

A stuffed arctic fox, and a stuffed lynx, and a stuffed painted Moroccan crocodile turned into a lamp.

(I am at my parents house)

I have a wreath, on a side table as I haven't managed to find the hook to put it on the front door.
Some Mistletoe hanging from the banisters.
A pair of pants, from 7yo. Why?? I don't know.
Also some ice skating penguins above the doors!!
