How do I get my the back of my fireplace black again?

That's it really. Was new last year and we had a fire virtually every night once it was installed. Now the back of the grate had gone a reddish/whitish colour, but would like to return it to it's former glory.
(Went to Lewis's and they had no suggestions and couldn't find anything on Lakeland.)

Zeebrite grate blacker works on the brick at the back as well. That's what I use.

KathyMCMLXXII - Thanks for replying so quickly. Do you know where I can get some from?

Mine came from the cleaning section of a good traditional department store, but an old-fashioned hardware shop should do it.
Just realised I mis-spelt - it's Zebrite not Zeebrite.

If it's a cast iron fireplace, I've been recommended WD40. It works really well, otherwise you can get special black fire paint from fireplace shops.

Also advised to use WD40 by the man who installed our fireplace. It works.

Thanks for your help everyone. Have just ordered the Zebrite grate blacker (change in spelling made all the difference on google) and am going to try the WD40 now (since we've got some in the toolbox).
