Have tried breach, civit bang and other 'mold' products but so far, no go.

Any tips?

Tia

We gave up and tiled from floor to ceiling. Sorry if not a v helpful answer! You can get anti mould paint too.

Think our mold must be a new bread of resistant mold. Its on our tiles and around the bath

it worked with lots and lots bleach and a nail brush in our bathroom.

Witchycat · 19/07/2006 20:50

I reckon bleach works up toa point but once silicon sealant has gone grey/black with it I t hink it's impossible to get out.

Sorry.

Bleach should work on tile grout though.

Anyone know anything less environmentally destructive that works as well as bleach?

MrsJohnCusack · 19/07/2006 20:54

I think vinegar and toothbrush can work well on grout etc. also I once wrote down the name of something they used on a tv programme - can't remember the name though. how helpful - still I'll post it if I remember it

sealant has to be replaced though

I find leaving bleach on the sealant for a long time gets rid of 90% of the marks. Sorry it is not very 'green'

There's spray stuff that can be used under paint to stop the mold showing throguh. Can't remember what it's called, but it seemed to do the job in our bathroom.

You can make up a mixture of white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and a little bit of water to make a paste. You put it on the mould and leave for at least 5 minutes. After that, you use a nailbrush/toothbrush to remove the mould then rinse it off with a sponge.

I have never tried it but did see it on TV and it looked really good!

PanicPants · 19/07/2006 21:53

Ooh thanks girls, I'll try the bicarb mix and see if it helps. It is mainly on the sealant and it's only been there 18months or so.

Where are the mold stains. Are they on the grout. If so neat bleach, every night for a week then wash off in morning. The grout may not whiten, then you need to re-grout. In this case, either go online to find out how or get someone in.

If mold in the sillicone around areas. Pull out the Sillicone and reseal, it's very easy, go to any diy store who will advise you what to buy and how to redo.

If it's around your shower door hinge as mine is. Clean it more often. I only noticed mine after not cleaning for about a year......am lazy cow, now I use an old toothbrush.

The easiest way (also not green, Franny !) is a mould and mildew remover spray - Dettol do one - it's mostly chlorine bleach, but in a spray bottle, so easy to apply all over a large surface.

Lakeland do a mould and mildew remover which is industrial strength. I had black silcone sealant in one corner of my shower. Sprayed it every night for three night and it was totally white again.

hi PanicPants. I asked a similar question not too long ago. My sealant was waaaay past rescue though, and I found a product which is mould resistant as it's not made of silicone. this is the website

Our bathroom is a 1970s throwback in the worst kind of way and we've no money to update it yet. Once we do, i'll be putting this around the bath and sink because we seem to always have this problem. HTH
