Hi all, i have a old oil fired boiler and have been considering swapping to lpg with a new gas boiler. Whats actually cheaper to run ? gas or oil. Im confused to what is the best thing to do ? the last thing i want to do is make the swap and then pay loads more money per month to heat my house and water. PLEASE HELP !!!!

I would imagine gas would be cheaper to run but I'm not100% sorry

No idea about the lpg but we just fitted a new oil fired boiler and are finding it's much more efficient than ye olde Rayburn. Also just booked an oil delievry - at the same price wepaid 3 years ago, which is certainly NOT the case for the house where we have mains gas that has gone up considerably in cost.

Historically Oil has been cheaper; make sure you buy oil in summer & enough oil in one go to get the lowest price (small amounts of oil cost you more per litre).

Investing in good insulation will save you the most money.

there is an actual comparision here (October prices)

www.nottenergy.com/energy_cost_comparison

it shows that at that time, oil (kerosene) was 5.9p per kwh, lpg was 7p and (for info) mains gas was about 5p. So then oil was cheaper than lpg.

you have to factor in the efficiency of the boiler - new oil boilers are supposed to be over 90%. And of course the relative costs of the boilers.

with lpg, you are locked into a supplier. With oil, you can shop around and time your purchase when it is cheaper, which needs careful monitoring.

lpg can't be stolen though!
