Just for fun - kitchen gadgets and cost per use

What kitchen gadget (or any home/garden gadget/leisure item, but try to keep it clean) was going to change your life, but has been gathering dust ever since? Maybe it's the old favourite exercise bike, or a juicer, or pressure washer, or...

Mine was relatively small, but I spent £20 on a terracotta bean sprouting thing, which I used once, then left it on the windowsill for six months until my husband took it straight to the charity shop without asking me. It was like a weight had been lifted.

Conversely, the sodastream, an accidental acquisition, on very special offer for £25, looked certain to fail, but we've used it for fizzy water every day for the last 18 months. I bet plenty of people count that among their white elephants.

Breadmaker! Never used - but I will....... ( Had it five years)

Tefal ActiFry. We used it for a bit - we always do with these things - but alas, it has not stood the test of time. Same applies to the smoothie maker.

We have got better at buying (or rather, not buying) now so at least this happens a lot less Grin

My breadmaker cost £20! and was used daily until DH washed up the mixer blade bit and put it in a safe place :(
We go through phases of using things, I bought DH a panini grill for Christmas a few years ago and he loves it, it can sit in the cupboard for a few weeks, then we'll have toasted sandwiches every other day for a month.
He is very impressed that the yoghurt maker I bought from lakeland a couple of months ago has been used at least once a week since it arrived [smug]
My steamer on the other hand - can't actually remember the last time it came out of the cupboard Blush

Another bread maker here! Paid £50 a few years ago, used once. Nearly set fire to the bloody thing (smoke bellowing out, smoke alarms screaming!) never used it since because I'm too scared!!!

Not a kitchen gadget but I bought an inflatable kayak for 80 quid that got eaten by rats after 5 uses….

Raclette machine £20 5 years ago and used at least 50 times since.
KitchenAid £squillions, but used 3/4 times a week and looks lovely out.
Juicer £20 used twice before it stuck together, got mouldy and I threw it out :(

Sodastream. OH was sucked in by their 're-launch' a couple of years ago and decided to buy one of the most expensive models at 80 quid, saying we would save a fortune on fizzy pop. We have used it three times as all the flavours are disgusting Hmm

I love my breadmaker, use it all the time.

Once bought a juicer, it was quite fun but the vast amount of vegetable pulp that it produced was such a pain to dispose of that I've now not used it for several years.
Of course it's healthier to eat all the fibre in any case Wink

Felix, we tried a few sodastream flavours, but they did nothing for us. We mostly use it for fizzy water, but it's also great with some rocks orange squash (like orangina!), or elderflower cordial, or buderim ginger squash (for ginger beer).

Oh dear normalish, That's a really sad story Sad ... Is it wrong that it's got me thinking "where can I get one of those?"
