Dishwasher still not clean after a cycle

MissionImpossible3 · 07/12/2013 17:13

Have just moved to a house with built in dishwasher. I've tried every cycle, checked filters and cleaned it, but dishes and washer are still partly dirty at the end of the cycle. Any suggestions? It's gross!! Thanks

Did it have an instruction manual? You can often download them off the net for free, if you know the make and model.

Is it topped up with salt and rinse aid?

We had this in a rented house once, and in that case it turned out that there was a hole in the bottom of the cutlery holder. After a short while into the wash cycle, the cutlery would vibrate enough that it fell through the hole, thereby stopping the blades below from turning around.

blocked hose somewhere?
top tray not pushed home properly?
have you found ALL the filters?

Blocked spray arm?

Have you done a maintenance wash? Empty dishwasher & use either specific dishwasher cleaning product or soda crystals, on a high temp cycle. Usually that will get rid of gunk & built up grease.

Always use the hot wash.

Always top up the salt and rinse aid even if using 3 in 1 tabs.

Use a cleaner and run on empty.

Open the door mid-cycle to verify that the water is scalding hot and squirting forcefully. Check the manufacturer's instructions to make sure there is not an extra filter you have missed.

If previous occupants were in the habit of putting greasy grill pans or chip pans in there without wiping off, it may have an internal blockage of congealed fat and need taking apart to get it out.

If a rented home, flag up to the agents straight away that it does not work.

Pity if it's integrated, it is so much easier, quicker and cheaper to repair or replace a standard freestanding appliance.

If it is a Bosch or similar, the age can be decoded from the FD number (fabrication date) on the top edge of the door.

p.s.

If it is foamy inside, from someone using washing up liquid or sponging the inside with household cleaner, it will not work.

Check the water is hot when washing. Just put your hand against the door to check it's warm. Ours regularly fails at that and I just turn it off and on again at the mains which works for a while.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give some of your suggestions a go. The worst thing is that I have a two year old dishwasher in the garage that was at my old house. Can't put it in as it's freestanding.
