emptying, cleaning and re-stocking cupboards
cleaning floor, wall, tiles, oven (not fridge)

(quite clean to begin with tbh)

Time it yourself, that would be most accurate wouldn't it?

WideWebWitch · 16/07/2006 18:16

couple of hours but it depends on how many cupboards, filth of oven/tiles etc. Why?

Twiglett · 16/07/2006 18:19

am treating myself to shininess

Absolutely spotless took 2 men days to do my ktichen - complete top to bottom clean, walls washed, cupboards/fridges/cooker/micro/windows (including washing between the double glazing)/floors etc etc etc.

Come to think of it -might be time to get them in again soon

Twiglett · 16/07/2006 18:55

how do you wash 'between' double glazing? aren't the units sealed??

If I do all my kitchen, pulling out appliances and cleaning behind, emptying pantry, cleaning and restocking, wiping tins and jars too, I reckon it takes me best part of a whole day, with breaks for lunch and tea and biscuits now and then.

brimfull · 16/07/2006 20:32

gosh that would take me all day atleast!

soapbox · 16/07/2006 20:34

No Twiggy - house is listed and you can only have secondary double glazing!

So the damned things have to be taken apart every now and then and cleaned!

Cleaning out of cupboards and pantry and chucking out of date stuff I do once a year. Moving appliances I do either when they break down and I've a repair man coming who is gonna be appalled at the sight, or once a decade when there's a funny smell I can't track down

jampots · 17/07/2006 09:39

obviously depends on size of kitchen but I would say about a day to do it all based on a kitchen of about 15x10 ish. It once took me 3 hours just to clean my friend's cooker hood and extractor thing - but it was MINGING

First thing to remember is dont underestimate the time.

We spent 10 hours (2 people x 5 hours) doing a family's "clean" house (4 bedrooms, bathroom, loo, kitchen, HSL but to be fair a huge chunk of that was in teh dd's bedroom which also was minging

themoon66 · 17/07/2006 09:40

Jampots - do you run a cleaning company then?

jampots · 17/07/2006 10:25

yes

themoon66 · 17/07/2006 11:10

God, my own mess is bad enough to clean, never mind tackling someone elses. I daren't hire a cleaning company now in case they send a MN-er and she slags me off on here afterwards!

Twiglett · 17/07/2006 11:13

kitchen less than a year old and is cleaned every week .. ovenu man was here less than a year ago .. hob and cooker hood stainless steel and already shiny

fridge was cleaned last week

no appliances are being pulled out

I'm allowing 3 hours (have 2 cleaners here so 2 x 3 hours but want one to do bathroom and ironing)

so how much would it cost to get someone in to do and top to toe clean? and how tidy would the house have to be before you could start?

mulls idea hopefully{ chin stroking emotion)

bossykate · 17/07/2006 11:52

lol soapy! - either your kitchen is the size of my old house or you (or your cleaner ) is a slattern!!!

Tutter · 17/07/2006 11:58

i paid a firm a lot of money recently for 2 girls to come in and do what i thought would be a 'sparkle clean'. was very disappointed but maybe i underestimated how long it would take to do a proper (i.e. behind furniture and appliances) clean.

i now think it would be a whole day for 1 person to do my kitchen really well.

soapbox · 18/07/2006 01:16

BK - one of the men spent the whole day, cleaning the cooker (which to be fair does have 3 ovens) Yes the cleaner is a slattern

bossykate · 18/07/2006 11:17
Wink
Bozza · 18/07/2006 11:31

It would take me all day to do mine, not including the fridge which has been done recently or the oven which would take a day on it's own. But that would include a thorough scrubbing of the laminate.

But TBH I cannot be bothered just now. Can I be allowed a little at you getting someone to do your ironing in this heat?

themoon66 · 18/07/2006 12:18

Have decreeded that I shall not be ironing until this hot snap is over. Anyone wants an uncreased shirt.... they iron it themselves.
