Advice on decluttering, deep cleaning and sprucing please!

Hello everyone, after looking at my house with a critical, view-to-selling sort of eye, I have concluded that some deep cleaning, de-cluttering and general sprucing up is in order. Sigh. It's not in a total mess; I keep on top of hoovering and dusting, my kitchen and bathrooms are clean and it's not toooo untidy as a rule, but those other jobs like washing skirting boards and cleaning my kitchen cupboards just seem to defeat me. In my defence, I have two tots and a very busy (though admittedly part-time) job, but I know lots of people have lots more than this and still manage to have neatly organised airing cupboards. I am at the stage where, generally, an unexpected visitor wouldn't have me hiding behind the sofa, but the thought of anyone rifling behind cupboard doors or in drawers makes me go faint.
Those of you super-organised types - do you have any tips on how to get these extras done? And can anyone advise the best way to approach the general sprucing? (touching up paintwork etc) - would you think it better to complete one area in full at a time, or for example, to paint all the woodwork throughout the house before going on to the next job? Any tips on making decluttering less painful (I admit I am a bit of a low level hoarder) would be gratefully received.
Apologies if I sound a bit hopeless, but it's all seeming a bit overwhelming at the moment and any advice would be much appreciated!

I would tackle 1 area at a time, that way you only disrupt 1 space and don't cause mayhem throughout the home. Also you get a nice sense on achievement by completing tasks by room Smile

1st declutter, then tidy, then deep clean then finally u can spruce up.

Wash curtains/nets/blinds if u can, paint where needed, replace items where needed and create a clean and clear space Grin

oh and in terms of Decluttering just crack on, get rid of rubbish so u can see what u have got and then anything useful but not needed send it straight to the charity shop. Good luck

If I were wanting to sell, I would make sure my home was very clean and tidy but I wouldn't bother touching up paint.

You can do a "virtual move" and go through your possessions as if you were packing up to move. Sort everything into boxes etc and chuck out stuff that doesn't justify the expense of transporting to another home.

I agree one room at a time, and a lot of people say just do 15 mins at a time so you don't get too bored personally I don't I'd rather crack on and get it completed Smile

Thanks so much for the advice - I've been cracking on in the evenings with those jobs I can't normally get round to and just need to get ruthless with any clutter! Looking so much better already that I'm feeling very motivated - need to keep going before that passes!
