Is it worth hiring a Rug Doctor?

Anybody out there used a Rug Doctor and had good results?

My living room carpet is not looking it's best and I'd love to clean it before Christmas.

Is it worth hiring a Rug Doctor to do this? Do they actually work? Or will I just be wasting money?

Thanks

Watching with interest as wondering the same.

Yes to all. It sucks with industrial power. Well I used it on a rug I was going to sell on ebay and was so impressed I went round the house doing all the carpets too.

I used one a few months ago and found it really good. Was easy to use and carpets looked v good afterwards. Didn't take as long as I thought to dry either. And very satisfying to see all the dirty water coming out Grin

Have used a couple of times before and was very pleased with the results. Agree with Miranda - very satisfying pouring all the black water down the sink! Possibly allow longer than you think for the job too. Once I saw how good it was, I got a bit carried away and wanted to clean everything I could before it had to go back. Make sure you buy plenty of carpet shampoo. I ended up having to go back and buy more ...

ooh glad i saw this. this may just have to be my 'push present' with DH doing all the work! i've been meaning to hire one for ages.

Yes - scary how dirty the water is. Second the idea that once you have it home you will want to do the whole house so it's wise to have a thorough sort out first so you can access everywhere you want to.

another vote. it is amazing how much filth they suck out. But if you do the carpet a second time the water will come out practically clean.

some people complain the carpets stay damp afterwards. I suppose you could go back on suction only a second time. Opening the doors and windows is much better for drying out than turning up the heat.
