Guests arriving in two hours, house is a bombsite in the aftermath of a week-long sickness bug

What can I do to make a big difference in a short time with relatively little bother? We've all had a horrid tummy bug in the last week so nothing has been done. Guests arriving for the weekend in about two hours (good friends but still...) Help!

  1. Put some music on, it helps get you in the zone

  2. Focus on the main areas that guests will see

  3. Moving clutter into piles is a quick way to make it look a bit tidyer. Just gather it all up and stack it neatly somewhere instead of spread all over.

But I think you can get a lot done in 2 hours! go go go! :)

If possible make sure the toilet is clean...anything else is a bonus!!

Clean all handles, taps, loo flushes etc with handgel to get rid of the sickness germs that can last a few days. Bleach clean loo & bathroom & kitchen sink

Has it been 48 hours since the last person was sick/had diarrhoea? If not the only thing you should be doing is calling them to tell them not to come!

Open windows and doors if possible to clear the house of stale air. Put some music on and collect cleaning stuff and black bags for rubbish . Start upstairs and clean the bathroom first then their room.
Allow yourself 15 minutes tops for each area then move on. Do the same for any other rooms they will will be in.Dont bother with hoovering unless there is very obvious mess on carpeted floors .

Anything you clear from each room can be put into a black bag and stored in your bedroom until you have time for relocation.

Put a saucepan with cinnamon, cloves, coffee grounds or beans, orange peel/lemon peel/lime in some water on the stove (anything that smells nicer than puke fumes, basically). Let it simmer.

Open your windows and spray every doorknob, toilet handle, toilet lid, kitchen cupboard handles with disinfectant spray (or use hand gel on a cloth). Then do what Ineedanexcuse says wrt quick cleaning. Take all laundry you find and bung it in the washing machine. You can sort it all out later. Splash some perfume on yourself. Quickly clean sink, taps and bath chrome with windolene. If you have any nice-smelling (pine, etc) kitchen cleaner, swab down your countertops.
