I have a rug and i cannot get it back to that lovely cleanliness of a new rug. Aside from hiring a carpet shampooer (because i own one and it's done fuck all) what do i need to buy/ do to get it back to normal. Also- i will have to do this method almost daily so preferably not a method that takes hours of work.

I sat last night for 2 hours and scrubbed it with a nail brush in stardrops and hot water which has worked but not as good as i would like.

So fire away with your recomendations.

I have a Bissel carpet cleaner for carpets, which I love

I don't have any proper 'rugs'.My back door mat I just take it out to the outside tap and use a scrubbing brush and washing up liquid!
I don't need to use washing up liquid on it any more as it just refoams everytime it gets wet thanks to having soaped it so much due to pissy cat

I have a vax carpet cleaner that my mum gave me but it doesnt seem to control the water jets very well/evenly. It leaves puddles in places and no water in others. Do you think it would be worth calling vax to get it fixed or would that be money down the drain?

Are there any handheld carpet cleaners out there?

Somebody has just linked this Bissell cleaner on another thread.
I really want one.

Have you tried a Rug Doctor? I've used one twice, and its been brilliant both times. Is so satisfying and embarrassing watching the water turn dirty black as you know it is working well to actually clean the carpet deep down. The house feels so much fresher/ brighter after using it.

Ooh tht bissell is very cute! Grin I am tempted. Is it getting good recommendations on the other thread?

I only have one rug so wouldnt really want to get a pro clean company in just for that- also i want to be able to clean it as often as necessary (daily really with kids and dog). Do you have any idea how much rug doctor charge? I might get it for a first clean and buy a handheld for daily cleans.

Good professional chemicals make a huge difference. This www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008LBA86G/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 works very well, no need to use defoamer either.

I had best results with a rug Doctor hired from b&q for £30 and cheapo tesco biological washing liquid.

it brought the carpets up amazingly well and didnt foam up. I wouldn't use it on wool though. Our carpets and rugs are synthetic.
