Rug or similar for when standing at kitchen sink or cooker area- thoughts?

Partly because it's a high-traffic area of the floor and partly to have something nice and soft to stand on.

Do you do this yourself? Have any ideas? I tried Ikea but didn't see anything I like. However I'm not sure what I'm looking for!

A rug near a cooker is just going to get absolutely filthy dirty isn't it?

Professional chefs seem to wear comfy clog type shoes with steel toes. Something like these special chef Birkenstocks for example.

I notice surgeons in hospital wear them too although theirs can be autoclaved - probably going a bit far.

You could try an anti fatigue mat. I have not tried one but would like to buy one as the ceramic tiles in my kitchen are very cold and hard.

similar response really only addition would be something either cheap and replaceable or easily washable.
Or buy a dishwasher Grin

I have a microfiber door mat from Lakeland and think they also do runners if you need something longer. I do use mine as a door mat but it would probably fit your purpose as it feels like chenille under foot, is non slip and washes in the machine.

I decorated my kitchen it's all pure white including floor with purple accessories,I wanted something for same reason and to break up the white so I bought a fab little mat which fits perfectly at cooker out of pound stretchers for £2.99 I think and it washes up great which I wash every week Grin

Ikea do really cheap ones a bit like a rag rug and they go into the washing machine Smile

Trip hazard?!

I've a couple of off-white bathroom mats and one made of plaited ?polyester which wash in machine, dry fast and provide somewhere comfortable to stand while at sink - with three I don't have to suffer from hard floor while they're washing.

Comfy slippers??
I've thought about that too actually. The anti fatigue mats sound like a good idea - are they any good?
Nice looking mat in Coopers of Stortford catalogue, few to choose from but again the ideas they will just get grubby puts me off.

Crocs, I have quarry tiles. They are hard and cold, slippers don't work. Crocs do.

I use a posh bath mat which grips the floor and which absorbs water and crumbs and sauce splashes like mad. In dark brown. In fact I have 2, one out one in wash.

I go barefoot indoors so it is lovely on my tiled floors (hot country).

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 27/11/2013 00:22

Bathroom mat, not the mat you put inside the bath!

ThereIsNoEleventeen · 27/11/2013 10:34

Complete with a picture of an aga: turtle mats.

FriskyHenderson · 27/11/2013 10:35

Something that goes in the washing machine else it'll get filthy. Wouldn't it be easier to wear slippers?

LoveandLife · 27/11/2013 10:41

Absolutely Turtle Mats

Very soft, very absorbent and go in the washing machine

shoom · 27/11/2013 17:55

Thanks for all the ideas. Hopefully helpful to others as well.

I do have a dishwasher and slippers that are supposed to be supportive but seem to end up standing at the same spot a lot and thought that protecting the floor would be a good idea.

I have a seagrass (think that's the material) or could be jute one and it's great. Really durable and can be hoovered up too. Bought from market
