That's it! After years of mixing, folding, chopping and baking by hand, Using a blender/hand blender etc, I need a lovely mixer.

Where do I start? What do I need? Who makes the best? x

There's a compact Kenwood that I'm thinking about. I'd love a Magimix Le Mini but I'm too poor at the mo.

Chottie · 17/11/2013 06:40

I would recommend a KitchenMaid. I have a Kenwood Chef and the whisk doesn't reach to the bottom of the bowl, so I can't use it to mix up smaller amounts.

UnicornsPooGlitter · 17/11/2013 06:43

I love my MagiMix.

Chottie you know you can adjust your beater so it reaches the bottom of the bowl? No idea how but I got a special tool with mine for doing it.

pengymum · 17/11/2013 07:34

Magimix. Look on amazon warehouse deals for good prices. Whenever I have had anything from there is been perfect. No faults that I have seen. You can always return if not happy with it.
I recommend the 5200XL premium if there's one reduced.
The XL has wider feed which means you can process large items whole - like potatoes. Or large quantities quickly and without having to chop smaller to fit in tube iyswim.
This model has all the extra attachments like juicer etc included - cheaper than getting the attachments later as they are.more expensive to buy separately.
Can use for anything you would use a stand mixer for
Cakes - fruit cakes are mixed using pulse so fuit not chopped
Bread kneaded beautifully
Whisk cream or meringues
Blend - extra attachment for v fine texture
Chop/mince meat
Plus chopping, slicing, grating
And has 3 bowl sizes so can do small quanties like 1 clove of garlic!
My SIL just got one and loves it. I would get one if didn't have Kenwood Chef already, as the Magimix takes up less space and chops etc better.
BUT I have a lot of the kenwood attachments now and love my potato peeler! Has cost me a lot over the years tho and if I was buying new now I'd go for the Magimix as works out cheaper, takes up less space and does most of the stuff I normally need.

pengymum · 17/11/2013 07:37

And I agree that you can adjust your Kenwood so it s does touch the bottom. Use the spanner type tool that comes with the Kenwood chef

I have a MagiMix for chopping/ grating etc. it is brilliant.

I have a kitchenaid for mixing/ beating/ whisking/ kneading. I LOVE it!

I'm sure the MagiMix says you can make cakes, whisk egg white etc in it but I never have as I always assumed I'd over do it as its very powerful.

It depends what you want it for really but both my toys feel very solidly made and work brilliantly. :)

AntoinetteCosway · 17/11/2013 09:03

Which Magimix is the one people are talking about? I'm guessing not the cheapest mini?

Suddengeekgirl · 17/11/2013 13:49

I have a 3200. It's the smallest full size mixer iyswim.

It was all I could afford/ justify at the time and as it really only ever needs to cope with the 4 of us it does the job. :)

HRHLadyG · 17/11/2013 14:37

Thank you so much....good tip about the whisk. have looked at Kenwood and Bosch....off to research Magimix. I really want one toy that can do all things well. Mostly I'll use it for baking, so whisking, folding, mixing but definitely want to chop/grate/blend too.
Id also like it to look lovely! x

I have just bought this Bosch but only paid £75 for it It doesnt do the chopping but does blend and grate however if you go on the bosch website there are lot of accessories for it including chopper, mincer and ice cream maker

UnicornsPooGlitter · 17/11/2013 16:54

Hmm, a KitchenAid would be best for all things baking, but if you want it to chop / grate etc too, I think you'd need a MagiMix or similar. We made a lovely cake using our MagiMix yesterday.

bruffin · 17/11/2013 17:11

The bosches come out best in Which

bruffin · 17/11/2013 17:24

Alternative suggestion: you could get a Kenwood Premier Chef. It is like an all-in-one machine, with three drivers for attachments. So it gives you a food processor, a blender, a chopper, a whisk, cake and pastry maker. And you can buy attachments to turn it into a juicer, pasta maker, potato peeler etc. etc. etc.

I have one and I love it! But it isn't as good at food processing as a standalone machine.
