Stale cigarette smell in bedroom?

DP and I moved into our flat in March. I smoke occasionally, but never in the house, and DP doesn't smoke at all. A couple of weeks ago we started to notice a stale cigarette smoke smell in the bedroom: it smells as though there's a dirty ashtray somewhere in the room, rather than as though someone has actually been smoking nearby. Neither our upstairs nor our downstairs neighbour smokes.

Since the clocks went back, we have had the Roman blind in the bedroom down quite a lot, and the heating has been on frequently in the last few weeks. As the radiator is directly underneath the window, we thought perhaps the heat was somehow releasing stale smoke that was trapped in the fabric of the blind, so today we have had the blind steam cleaned at the dry cleaners. We also hoovered the whole room including moving all the furniture and hoovering the mattress. However, the room stills smells of smoke.

Any ideas as to what's causing it and/or how to get rid of it? I really don't want to have to resort to , especially as we're pretty sure the landlord repainted the walls and window sills before we moved in.

I'd be really grateful for any suggestions!

Anything plasticky around? Every so often this kind of thread appears and the culprit has been the plastic underside of a sofa/chair/bed frame

Could be ingrained in the wallpaper, carpets, wardrobe or anything else left over from the previous tenents.

It's the radiator!

Clean it thoroughly and repaint it with radiator spray paint if needed.

You could try an air filter. We got one to deal with my husband's allergies but they also get rid of smells. Ours was 70 quid from robert dyas but maybe someone would have one you can borrow? A few hours makes a big diference.

Thanks for the suggestions. All the furniture belongs to us, so no chance it's coming from there. I think it might be the radiator - will have to ask landlord exactly what was repainted before we moved in.
