Damp smell in cupboards

Any suggestions for how to deal with a damp/musty smell in kitchen cupboards? Our kitchen is half underground (the house is built into a hill) and so the cupboards at the back tend to have a rather damp smell to them (can't do anything about the damp - rented house). I've tried little saucers of bicarb without success. Thanks.

My utility room was like that. I had to put a small radiator in there.... one of them little oil filled ones. I had it on a timer to come on overnight and dry the place out.

Thanks both. I'll try the gel freshener and see if it works. The utility room, which is also underground, doesn't smell damp, actually, it's just these kitchen cupboards which are on an outside wall (we're thinking about buying this place if it comes on the market, must remember to get this properly checked out then!).

During the day try emptying out the cupboards as much as possible leave the doors open and open windows/doors into the kitchen to let some air in. This worked in DDs wardrobe which got damp when our boiler leaked!

You could try something like this or one of this sort of thing (looks like they don't have the actual thing, just the refill, but absorbs damp).
