Miele washing machines?

So I'm about To buy one, which best but, energy efficient, apparently last forever, 5 year warranty! Just wondering if there's anything bad about them, as never bought Miele, but I know they are supposed to be good!

I've answered you in Chat!!

nancerama · 15/11/2013 13:31

Had mine for a couple of years and I love it.

Given that I had the engineer out at least twice a month for my Hotpoint (that customer services said nothing was wrong with and frequent engineer call outs were "normal", I'm loving not having a machine constantly out of action.

sadsong · 15/11/2013 13:33

I've been very lucky up until now with my old hotpoint, but I know they aren't built as well these days. With 5 messy boys I'm really hoping to avoid breakdowns etc, so that's great news! Thankyou

I love mine. The man who delivered it gave me two tips - do not overload it and give the motor time to cool down between loads. Now nearly ten years old and has not missed a beat.

GideonKipper · 15/11/2013 18:23

Mine is 7 years old and not had a single problem with it (apart from coming out in a cold sweat when I think about how much it cost).

confusedabouted · 16/11/2013 22:24

ours is 26 years old!never had a problem with it.

celestialsquirrels · 16/11/2013 22:29

10 years and never had to call out the Miele man. You won't regret it. It will end up being the cheapest machine you ever bought on a cost-per-wash basis!

Chottie · 16/11/2013 22:33

I have all Miele machines, washing machine, dishwasher, tumbler drier and two hoovers. They are quiet, efficient and do the job really well. Yes, they are not cheap to buy, but cost per use they are worth it.

TeaAddict235 · 16/11/2013 22:39

Bought it in 2009 and never had a problem with it. Very smooth running, great technology, little to no noise. Expensive but worth it. Every morning on the M25 see a big red Miele van, which makes us laugh.

Also at work we use a Miele dishwasher for lab stuff and it is brilliant! That one is about 8 years old.

viperslast · 16/11/2013 22:45

My washer and dryer are both awful. Oh and the repair system means I can't get the dryer repaired without risking a couple of hundred quid. Obviously no one else can repair it so the washer is being run into the ground and the dryer is dead. I can't afford to replace it so no dryer. Really wish I had gone for a more reasonably priced option and planned to replace it rather than buy the miele. I won't do it again.

From what I can gather people who have had them a while have no problem but people who bought them more recently have found it a bit more hit and miss.

viperslast · 16/11/2013 22:48

Oh, I forgot the dishwasher. It was fitted when we bought the house (new kitchen) and lasted just past the warranty.

Maybe I hold a miele jinx?

napkin · 17/11/2013 00:08

What's wrong with your machine viperslast? I know new washing machines are not as good as they use to be but didn't think it would be the same with Miele.

viperslast · 17/11/2013 03:57

It's losing its spin. Over time the spin is getting slower and less effective. Unfortunately that means that the rinse also fails a lot of the time. Not sure exactly what it's caused by but the repair people I spoke to (several companies) the fault is not unusual and is hit and miss whether repairing it would even work.

Chottie · 17/11/2013 06:37

viper given your experience has so bad, would it be worth calling the customer care section of Miele and telling them the whole sorry story? Miele pride themselves on their customer care and they may send an engineer out to check your machines over for free?

It would be worth a phone call if it got your machines working again???

valiumredhead · 17/11/2013 10:15

I've had mine for 13 years and only just replaced my drier after 12.5. Never had any problems.

Originally we had a washer drier and kept having to call the engineer out and after the third time we complained to head office and the customer service was amazing, the let us have separate washer and drier for a hugely discounted price. Iirc they let us have a models which were worth 500 more than we paid.

sadsong · 17/11/2013 11:27

Oh dear viper that's got me slightly worried. Fortunately I don't need any more appliances quite yet and will see how the washing machine goes before I invest hugely in everything else. I recently bought a new white knight dryer, cheap as chips £150, as my previous one had lasted 7 years. I thought that was good for a machine that only cost me £119. The man that fixed my hotpoint recommended as British made and cheap parts. But it went for 7 years without skipping a beat!

It's such a minefield knowing what to choose! Confused

We have meile everything, even Hoovers and only ever had a problem with the washer dryer so don't be put off.

Lagoonablue · 17/11/2013 18:06

A washing machine engineer i know believes them too be good but well overpriced. I can see his point. He suggested we just get a mid range Bosch and tbf it has been fine 7 years on.

No offence but there seems to be a bit of a snobbery about them. It is yet another brand to aspire to and put In Farrow and Balled designer kitchens!

valiumredhead · 17/11/2013 18:17

People rave about them as they are so reliable generally.

sadsong · 17/11/2013 19:40

I won't mention my farrow and ball kitchen or my homebase hallway !! Shock Honestly I wasn't being a snob, just to be without a machine is hard for everyone, but with such a large family fairly awful for me. Fortunately we lugged the old integrated one, stored in garage up the stairs and plumbed in Friday night, as delivery a whole week. It's only a 3kilo Angry Thank god we did though as youngest projectile vomited on everyone and everything the whole of Saturday!

Lagoonablue · 17/11/2013 20:26

I don't mean you are a snob. Sorry. I just get a bit cynical about aspirational brands.

I have F and B paint myself! Everything else is MFI or Homebase!

valiumredhead · 17/11/2013 20:49

I'm not sure they are aspirational though, are they? Its not like they are all bells and whistles and bling, they aren't exactly pretty or flashyGrin they are just very solid and reliable and boring

mindgone · 20/11/2013 20:47

I love mine! I got it during a special offer in John Lewis a good few years ago with a 10 year guarantee!
