Washing waterproof sheets

I have a waterproof sheet thing which was about £15 so not one of the really cheap ones that fall apart. How hot a wash do I need to do it on? Without it melting?

does it not have a care label on it? Mine gets washed at 40 degrees - it is a cotton sheet with a waterproof backing. I then dry the backing a bit with a towel so that it dries quicker

No no care label and I can't remember what the packaging said
It is a kind of toweling material with plastic backing
Washing at 40 but it smells!

what does it smell of? I use bio powder on mine and as i said i dry the plastic backing so it dries faster

Try using biological washing powder at 40 degrees.

ilovepowerhoop · 09/11/2013 19:25

do you have bio stuff? Or you could try some of the anti bacterial stuff you add to a wash e.g. dettol do a laundry cleanser that leaves a nice smell

Mumof3xx · 09/11/2013 19:25

Does bio get out smells non bio doesn't? Does it have to be powder?

the enzymes are maybe better at breaking down the components of the pee so it gets removed. I just prefer powders to liquids as liquids dont contain bleach and dont keep the drum of the machine as clean. I got a build up of slime in my machine when I just used liquids.

i was mine on a 90 degree wash & tumble dry them, so far they have lasted 4 years & do not smell of wee :)

Mumof3xx · 09/11/2013 19:59

I didn't think they would survive the dryer?!

mine say not to tumble dry them

gamerchick · 09/11/2013 20:09

Just wash it at 40 either hang it on the line for a bit or over a door with a towel underneath.

I tumble dry mine and its always been fine- just not on a really hot setting! If I don't have any bio tablets in, I just use a spoonful of bicarb and a good splash of vinegar- works perfectly and gets rid of all pissy smells!!

BerstieSpotts · 09/11/2013 20:24

I had a super cheap one which I washed at 40 or 60. The plastic did disintegrate and split eventually but I got a good 4 years out of it. Covered the period it needed to :) I think I may have done it at 90 after DS had a tummy bug once but 60 is hot enough to kill germs/bacteria :)

MooMa42o · 10/11/2013 09:14

i just checked mine & they also say not to tumble them but i am not going to stop doing it now! :) i am ashamed to say i stick everything in the tumbler & deal with the consequences should it get ruined!....
