wooden work surfaces

I have wooden work tops ( all wood kitchen actually) it is some obscure wood and, on the whole, looks great
But, around the sink and in the grooves I have black patches. My friend has the same kitchen and hers is much worse but she is more chilled about it than me
I have started oiling around the sink more frequently and was tempted to varnish but was warned off by DIY shop
Tung oil is what I am using
I guess other than sanding down I cant get rid of it but any tips for preventing it getting worse or more appearing

No advice, sorry but we are thinking about wooden worktops. A friend who has them warned about the problem you have, so will be interested to see what people have to say.

This has been the bane of my life in our current house! Only got rid of it with sanding. If I did wooden worktops again I'd have something hard wearing around the sink Boils.

We have oak worktops but haven't had this problem. We (fairly) regularly sand and oil the tops with Danish oil. But then I am pretty fastidious about wiping up water spills around the sink each time I anyone uses the sink Blush

Google osmo oil, they do obedient worktops, it's meant to be the bees knees!

You need to wipe down the sink area every time, once you get into the habit of doing it, it won't happen.
