Flooring for a kitchen

I have managed to rip my kitchen Lino today moving my fridge to decorate.

What flooring would you recommend. I am loathe to get more Lino as it already had a small rip from moving my washing machine when it was repaired.

Are carpet tiles any good for a kitchen?

I don't really fancy laminate and am on a budget - wasn't planning on replacing the Lino just yet but the new rip is big and very visible :(

I really would not have carpet tiles as they are difficult to clean. Could you imagine spilling red wine on them, or oil? I think the only sure fire way out is ceramic tiles. They cost a lot but withstand anything and everything. Lino does rip and is a pain. Laminate is cheaper and in my view would be good too. How about vinyl floor tiles? Harder wearing and can look ok but are susceptible to scuffs if you move appliances.

Don't get laminate, it's not suitable for kitchens or bathrooms, it swells where water gets into it, we had it in our old kitchen and current bathroom and it looks rubbish really quickly because it gets chipped and swells where water gets into the joins.

If tiles are too expensive get Lino but decent quality, you can get it that looks and feels like wood, the ones I've seen are really thick and I can't imagine them ripping easily, perhaps it was a cheaper/older one you've had before?

We've been looking at lino recently and there are some fab designs, and they're really quite robust and thick.

If you're on a budget then more lino (non-cushioned/Rhinofloor type). Do price up tiles/tiler too, you may be surprised at what they can do for a price.

I inherited brown carpet tiles (nice!) when we moved in, eventually replaced with cushioned vinyl which was easy to maintain but got a few cuts in it over the years. When we had a new kitchen, we got it tiled (fab Homebase tiles, not hugely expensive) and would never have anything else now.
