Best mop?

Have been happily sweeping our new wooden floor, and just spot-cleaning where/when necessary. However ds is now a) crawling and b) throwing his food around - not a good combination. I just went shopping for a mop, and was a bit overwhelmed by the choice! Can anyone recommend a good mop and bucket system that works well on wood floors and doesn't take up much space to store?

I've got something similar to this (but from QVC), which also comes with a couple of microfibre cloths that you can wet under the tap, wring out, and wrap round the mop head, IYSWIM. Damp, but not wet, and no need for a bucket. Have seen similar in Waitrose. Just sling the cloth in the washing machine when dirty. Or you could get something like this that has the water 'built in'. We have laminate, though, so if you have 'real' wood, not sure if these are OK?

These look brilliant, and not having to use a bucket is a bonus (prob better for real wood, too, as less water involved). Thanks JackieNo!

Alve, we have oak floors, and use a mop like that, as too much water will damage it, get a few of the heads though, otherwise just when you need one it'll be dirty!

Thanks littlemadam - good advice!

I was going to recommend one like that, we have one and it's excellent. This particular model I don't thik looks so good tho, the velcro will def. go sooner or later. The one I've got has a frame & you press a button & it folds back so you can slip the old one off/new one on. I had a velcro fastening mop once, and after a few goes the velcro kept popping off. grrr.

I have a mop similar to the first one jackie linked to. I used to disposable floor wipes on it but decided this was expensive and environmentally unsound so I cut up an old tea towel (with bumps on IYSWIM) to the right size and use this (run some water and disinfectant into half sink and dip and squeeze) and wash it in between times.

What a perfectly lovely and straight forward mop thread. Just what we need after yesterday's activity

Thanks all! Have been away for the weekend, but now feel compelled to have a look for that activity Welshmum mentions...
