thank you to those of you who suggested getting ovenu in to deal with the disgusting oven in our new house. he said it was one of the worst he'd seem, but now it looks brand new Smile no more bits of someone else's greasy burnt food falling in my dinner!

We had ours done when we moved in. Chap said it was one of the worst he'd seen. I was also tempted to send the bill to the previous owners. Dirty buggers. Its a lovely oven as well. Two big ovens and seven hobs. I keep it lovely. Grin

Ovenu are amazing, I don't know why I ever thought cleaning the oven myself was a good idea.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 31/10/2013 21:30

I know who will be cleaning my oven next time!!

Howstricks · 31/10/2013 22:24

For those of us without the funds currently for an oven cleaning angel to swoop in and do the dirty...any recommends on diy oven cleaning stuff?

fluffiphlox · 01/11/2013 08:03

To me it's the best £50-ish you'll spend.

BoffinMum · 01/11/2013 08:51

Howstricks, get the Oven Mate product from Lakeland, and a load of (silver nylon pan) scrubbers . You will have to apply and reapply the gel lots of times if the oven is in a terrible state but eventually it will work. Avoid Mr Muscle at all costs - the fumes will choke you to death and it leaves crusted on bits all over the place.

You need Over Pride - the stuff in the orange box that has a plastic bag for your shelves. It's one of the best things ever to have been invented. Some Amazon reviews here - although I'm sure you can buy it cheaper in the supermarket.

BoffinMum · 01/11/2013 09:15

People on MN have actually had orgasms over Oven Pride (there was a whole thread about it) but I prefer the Lakeland gel stuff.

SirChenjin · 01/11/2013 09:17

I don't think that the Lakeland stuff has the bag, does it? It's the OP bag that does it for me every time

BoffinMum · 01/11/2013 09:19

To bag or not to bag, that is the question. Grin

No, it comes with a brush and blue gloves.

dontsqueezetheteabag · 01/11/2013 09:31

Oven pride all the way!

I do my oven maybe 2-3 times a year and oven pride is the best thign to use. It's a £5 out of B & M stores (yes, I shop there!) and is the best value product.

My bottle lasts 2-3 cleans. DO NOT get it on your skin!

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 09:37

ovenu

PurpleFrog · 01/11/2013 14:41

Can recommend NOT spraying oven liberally with vanish carpet cleaner - the foam is a bugger to get rid of.

I can also recommend NOT spraying a varnished wooden table with Mr Muscle oven cleaner... I must have got distracted when looking in the cupboard for Mr Sheen furniture polish! Blush

valiumredhead · 01/11/2013 23:50

Put a dishwasher tablet in a small bowl of boiling water to soften it, then use it as an eraser to rub away the grease marks on the oven door. It also works inside the oven too.

SirChenjin · 02/11/2013 14:14

Will give that a go valium

HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/11/2013 19:30

May I ask was that 50 ish pounds for the oven and hob?

This sounds so appealing!!

Shellywelly1973 · 03/11/2013 22:45

A link to ovenu?

fluffiphlox · 04/11/2013 19:24

I think it is about £50, quite possibly less, for the double oven. Cherwell oven cleaning or some such. Plenty of them around. Originally used this type of service when I was selling my mum's house and they had their work cut out, but good as new after. I get them in maybe twice a year for our house. Fantastic.

valiumredhead · 04/11/2013 19:26

Worth googling a local firm as they tend to be cheaper.

BrownSauceSandwich · 05/11/2013 08:38

Oh purplefrog! I was just about to tell the story of the time I sprayed a squiggle of oven cleaner down a polished wood coffee table. I stared at that squiggle for the next two years, then decided I didn't really need a coffee table anyway. Blush

I'm tempted to get ovenu in, but I'm afraid of being told it's the worst they've ever seen. And really, I think I just want a new cooker.
