How do I clean a mildewy buggy?

My Maclaren buggy has been sitting in the shed for a year or so but I need to get it back in action before arrival of DC2. It has got a bit mildew-y, I tried to clean it off with hot water, soap, sponge but it didn't budge. Does anyone know a way I can get it clean without wrecking the buggy?

Will the covers come off? If so, I'd bung them through the wash, maybe with some napisan.

If that doesn't shift it, then I had good results cleaning a handbag liner with that Detol mildew spray and leaving it in sunlight (although the t-shirt I tried it on bleached so be careful!)

I had a maclaren quest that got very damp in a garage. I soaked the whole thing in the bath for a couple of days in biological washing liquid.

Then rinsed it and then scrubbed it with mould and mildew remover, mild bleach solution and Milton (not all at once).

I did it all outside in the sun and let it dry thoroughly. It looked very clean at the end but the fabric still smelt damp to me and I bought a new one for DD2. Sorry.

Maybe mine was very bad though?

I don't think the covers come off. Not easily, anyway, they look to be screwed on in places.

Sounds like you did a thorough job, princess, not much hope for me then! The straps and the hood are pretty bad. The seat itself seems OK though. I haven't dared try anything with bleach in it yet, maybe that's the next step?

I'm a bit Sad because it's a lovely buggy and one of the only things we bought new for DD. It's a Techno XT and was rather £££, but well worth it and I certainly want to use it again. SIL has just donated me her bugaboo frog for the early months, I have been wrestling it in the garden and wondering if it's really worth the bother. The just so much of it!
