Plasticy Material - Machine Washable?

I have a sandbox cover that was just left to sit outside for ages, and it quite gross and moldy. Can I put it in the washing machine? It's plasticy waterproof fabric ...

I don't see why not, I wash shower curtains in the machine, so same sort of thing.

Don't use biological tho, cos it'll damage the waterproofing. A spot of flash floorcleaner is your best bet.

I put anything in the washing machine, me - I put my plastic backed picnic rug in even though the instructions say not to: it's fine. If it's minging anyway, what have you got to lose?

NotQuiteCockney · 05/07/2006 19:55

Yeah, true. I just feel guilty as a neighbour sorted out the cover and the tray for us, and we've not really used it. Well, at least I'm sorting it out now.

Maybe I'll try it on a lowish temperature.

Don't think we have flash floorcleaner. Could I use woolite or something? (Not sure if our washing powder is bio or not, whoops.)

Disclaimer: if your washing machine breaks you're on your own.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/07/2006 19:58

Damnit, I was hoping to get you to come over and fix it :-P.

Can't see how it could break the washing machine, particularly as long as I wash it at a lowish temperature (30?). So it can't melt all over it.

Woolite might be a bit gentle on outdoor mouldy stuff.

When I said Flash floorcleaner, I meant the sort of general purpose stuff you can use on floors, baths, worksurfaces, you know. Failing that, how about washing up liquid (only a little bit tho, or it'll foam all over the house).

marthamoo · 05/07/2006 19:59

Nah, it'll be fine. If your powder is bio, just wash it without - give the mildewy patches a scrub with a nailbrush and some washing up liquid first.

or, wipe the mouldy bits over with bleach before you wash it.
