Decent toilet brush - mine's just snapped!

In a bid to save money I bought a couple of cheap as chips toilet brushes. When I used them the handles were flimsy and one has just snapped!
I've had a look in Sainsburys but they didn't have any. Any recs for a decent one that does a good job but not too pricey. Can think of other things I'd rather spend my money on!

I but the Asda cheapies at 50p each. They last a couple of months then I get a new one. I would much rather replace often as they just get really dirty quickly and how can you clean them efficiently

Toilet duck flushable things

Jemster · 27/10/2013 08:20

Yes that's a good point Debs I hadn't thought of it like that.

Toilet brushes give me the heebie jeebies. We have one of those toilet duck thingys. To save on pennies I use rolled up loo roll for the as and when cleaning and the flushable wipes for the full on clean. It's much more hygienic (I think) and mine has lasted ages.

OnecanToucan · 27/10/2013 08:30

The toilet duck thingy has a kind of pincher thing at the end that holds the flushable wipes or loo roll in order to get into the bowl... I didn't mean I put my hand in the loo with the bog roll! Just wanted to clarify!!! Smile

Jemster · 27/10/2013 08:45

What are these toilet duck thingys, I've never seen them? I also can't bear normal toilet brushes, would love to do away with them if poss. I'm guessing the toilet duck one could work out quite costly though?

I don't understand bog brushes at all. Why would you collect poo from somewhere where it's contained under water, on a smooth and impermeable surface, and bring it into the open air on a high-surface area, impossible to clean implement?

We use the toilet duck flushable brushes, once or twice a week with a full clean of the bathroom. In between times, in case of skid marks, we bleach the toilet bowl, leave for 15 minutes, then flush again.

Jemster · 27/10/2013 09:04

Agree BrownSauce brushes are gross. How much do the duck things cost you per week?

Toilet duck thingy

It could be pricey but I only use the flushable wipes for the main clean so that does save a bit.

BrownSauceSandwich · 27/10/2013 09:11

They come in packs of 12 for about £3... So 25p each. I have stocked up when I've spotted them on offer or in local cheapo shops. I know it's not the cheapest way to live, but I don't mind paying up to 50p a week to not have a disgusting poo brush in my home.

BrownSauceSandwich · 27/10/2013 09:13

Oh god, this has just reminded me of a particularly dismal walk on the beach, when our puppy came galloping back to us holding the dirty end of an old bog brush in his mouth, and leaving a trail of passers-by hooting with laughter in his wake. Hmm

Jemster · 27/10/2013 09:17

Lol brownsauce poor puppy! Thanks alot everyone, I'm off to locate toilet duck brushes!

IKEA has good, functional and very cheap loo brushes.

EugenesAxe · 28/10/2013 05:48

Got this one from John Lewis - slightly cheaper than many - and it's great. Looks discreet, elegant and doesn't go bloody rusty like a lot of the fancier ones out there.

EugenesAxe · 28/10/2013 05:48

FFS...

This one

I dislike toilet brushes. I do use the ducks fresh brush for quick inbetween cleans.

Personally, however, I think the only way to really get the loo clean is to get in there with a sponge scrubber. Gloved hands (of course) a spray of Method bathroom cleaner and get scrubbing. I am a domestic cleaner and I do this with my clients bathrooms as well as my own.

The scrubbers I buy in a large pack from Tesco (value ones) and they literally cost just pennies each - so I use 1 per client visit and discard after use!
