Fruit fly problem..

At least I think they´re fruit flies.. tiny little ones have invaded the kitchen, fault of the compulsary (where I live) food waste recycling bin... I´ve cleaned everything thoroughly but they´re still lurking. Anything else I can do?

I thought you organised a cremation CF,did that not work ??

MrsBadger · 04/07/2006 19:19

apart from really good lid on the food bin and no fresh food out anywhere there's not much you can do - they're not actually harmful, just a pain.

put some vinegar in a small dish and cover it with saran wrap, then poke tiny holes in the wrap - the flies will be attracted to the vinegar and drown

hana · 04/07/2006 19:20

saran wrap is cling film over here oops

I had these when I had a compost bin in the kitchen. I din't get rid of them until I moved the compost bin outside. They love it.

Brilliant.. will try the vinegar and clingfilm idea!! Just as proof that every cloud... the kitchen is spotless, never had such a thorough clean before! Maybe all that`s left is to throw out the vinegar in the morning!

They also love soggy brown bananas - I am always going to make something with them, they lie around for days until I chuck 'em out and grow a healthy crop of the little bleeders meantime (but where do the flies come from???)
