I know that the theory is that you can't have too many books but I've just had a sort out of the DC's books and we must have 200 odd excluding things like the boxes of Thomas & Mr Men books. The seems a bit excessive, especially as we probably only read 10 of them on a very regular basis and another 30 or so on a semi regular basis.
So, what do I do? At the moment, there are some in DD's room and the rest are on a bookcase (well, often all over the floor) between her's and DS' room.
DD is 4 and DS is 18mths. They have two stories together every night which DD picks. Its usually a Maisy or Topsy & Tim or Usborne First Experience book. She never chooses a "proper" story like the Gruffalo or Goldilocks. We recently got some early reader books and she loves those.
DS will then usually have a couple of books once DD is asleep and we usually have a "proper" story followed by a pop up or lift the flap book.
A bit of me is tempted to banish all of the ones like Topsy & Tim which I am thoroughly bored of but it is supposed to be DD's wind down before she goes to bed so I don't want to force her through something she's not enjoying.
Any ideas much appreciated.
