I am not a housewife really but I am working part time now so decided to give a little more attention to my home.

1st of all: my oven. it needs cleaning. I have no idea where/how to start. should I hire someone or can I do it easily?

How do I clean brooms?

I had a long mental list but can't remember much now...

Get someone in to clean the oven if you can. The guy I've used does it without chemicals and leaves it looking brand new! Smile

SweetSkull · 19/10/2013 22:41

Where do I find such a person?

Google oven cleaning in your area.

You can do it yourself, but it's never as good as the professionals.

Cleaning brooms? Confused um...buy a new one?

SweetSkull · 19/10/2013 23:47

Wow
I did not know there were specialised companies for oven cleaning. My local one charges £63 at the moment (reduced from £83.) Does is sound ok?
Regarding the broom, lol, I will buy another one. I suspect my husband used the brand new broom on a wet/dirty floor, I complained and he said he would clean it but I am still waiting...just wondering how would he actually clean the broom if he were even to remember do it...

I got someone in to do the oven it was the best £40 I've ever spent, now I just clean it regularly to maintain it..well regularly ish..

As for cleaning a broom...no idea I'd just buy a new one or a new head, if I had a broom.

Just wondering if I should wait until Christmas is over and get the oven clean for the new year...

Oh nooo don't wait, nothing else will make your Christmas day more special than actually being able to see the turkey through the oven door!

Agree about someone in to clean the oven. I do actually clean my oven quite often and it is never that bad but I got someone in to do it and what a difference from my efforts. I'm in Scotland and it cost £50.

Take broom outside and sort of whack it, bristles pointing straight down off the ground a few times so it bounces a bit. If some dust falls out, congratulations, you've cleaned it! If no dust comes out, then it's clean enough to brush your floors.

I'd do what BrownSauce recommended re the broom but then also, if it is a broom with soft synthetic bristles (ie for indoor use) and is very dirty then I would spray a bit of kitchen/bathroom cleaner on to it while outside and then spray it with the hosepipe until the detergent is rinsed off. Then shake off excess water and leave to dry. ( Or you could swish it in the bath until it is rinsed but this would be more messy but might inspire you to clean the bath afterwards)

igirisu · 21/10/2013 12:43

i clean my mops and brooms in the bath or the mop bucket outside! I put them in the bath then clean the bath at the same time (rinsing the bath afterwards) i just fill the bath with hot water and bleach.

As for an oven cleaner i didnt know one existed! I am never putting my head in that oven full of acid for a whole sunday afternoon ever again!

SweetSkull · 21/10/2013 12:59

Sadly I don't have a hose and just a tiny balcony. I will try cleaning the broom there or in the bath. I think I probably have a more satisfying feeling by cleaning the broom than buying a new one. Not that I get a kick out of cleaning brooms but I certainly get a kick out of saving money!
