Can you fit a king size duvet in a 9kg washing machine?

It's a hollow fibre one from the white company, it's extra fluffy compared to normal hollow fibre ones.

I'd love to wash and dry it at home.

I cant in my 8kg one. Give it a go though- you might be lucky. Id live to do mine at home aswell

PoppyAmex · 15/10/2013 20:13

I fit my super king on an 8kg one so I'm guessing yes.

PoppyAmex · 15/10/2013 20:14

Sorry forgot to say mine is goose feathers though so might be thinner. Not sure

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/10/2013 20:14

I haven't bought one yet. It's in the ideas stage.

A lot of saving needs to be done Smile

Does it wash evenly poppy? I really try and squash mine in but it wont fit and i think if by some stroke of luck i got it in it would be too squashed up to wash properly

bundaberg · 15/10/2013 20:17

i would doubt it.... even if you managed to shove it all in it may not really wash very well

PoppyAmex · 15/10/2013 20:20

It comes out great but it is remarkably thin; I think it's Siberian goose and they're super light and tiny.

I also use the double rinse option to make sure there's no detergent residue.

colleysmill · 15/10/2013 20:26

My 4.5tog goose feather one did after ds had an accident on it.

Gatekeeper · 16/10/2013 10:33

I can't fit my 4.5 tog one in our 8kg one as it fits where it touches and water/detergent doesn't get distributed properly

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2013 11:16

I did with our thin summer duvet. Where there's a will, there's a way. Probably not with a winter one though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2013 14:13

I can get my 4.5tog in the one I've got but its only a cheap Sainsburys one.

Look at size of drier drum
Consider that a person can't actually fold even a piece of paper more than 6 or 7 times, times (however big)
Look at size of duvet.

Not going to happen.

But if you work out a way ...I'd love to wash mine at home Grin

dingledongle · 16/10/2013 14:32

Possibly not due to the weight of the duvet when wet! Our summer one we can but the winter one no way.

Will probably wash better in the Launderette machine IYSWIM.

sparkle12mar08 · 16/10/2013 22:07

A kingsize 4.5 tog hollowfibre, yes. A kingsize 13 tog feather - not a cat in hell's chance. Not if you want it to actually wash properly. If you want to just get it wet and have the detergent stick to certain bits of it, sure.

Floggingmolly · 16/10/2013 22:12

No. Our machine actually has a duvet cycle on it; but a normal sized duvet fills the drum to capacity (9kg machine) Confused
There's no way it would clean properly.

Maverick66 · 16/10/2013 23:15

Agree with Floggingmolly I have a new 9kg machine and no way would it take a king duvet.

SONofHUD · 29/11/2016 18:34

I have unfortunately put a double qult in a 7kg new washing machine and it started to smoke (quilt) Anyway I cannot open the door now. Is there anyone who can help me what to do? Thanks in advance

TheDuckSaysMoo · 29/11/2016 18:38

You can put feather duvets in the washing machine?! I never knew this. Do the feathers not go all bunched up?

dingit · 29/11/2016 18:42

Take it to the dry cleaners. About £12 and comes back in a nice carry bag.

Artandco · 29/11/2016 18:44

Our super king can, but it's wool filled not feather so thinner

PatMullins · 29/11/2016 18:45

I tried and my washing machine said no Sad
