Keeping kitchen floor crumb free

How do you all do it? I am forever sweeping the floor (ordinary broom) but it never gets really crumb free, unless i hoover it. Do I need to hoover it more often? Should I get one of those Bissell sweeper things or light Dyson?

It's the kitchen floor - it's going to have crumbs.
I hoover mine way more than I sweep it, I have to say. Sweeping usually does miss stuff.

You need a dog. I'd recommend a dachshund

aliceinapalace · 07/10/2013 21:35

I love my Bissell carpet sweeper, I'm not embarrassed to say it has changed my life!

SilverSixpence · 07/10/2013 21:40

alice that sounds good - can you say what's so good about it? and does it work on tiles/laminate?

It seems more efficient on my laminate than on my thick carpet. I particularly like that it picks up big pieces of food from.under highchairs. Its very easy to empty, lasts ages on a charge and takes very little time to charge up. I have a pet hair one, not sure if that makes a difference. I find it much quicker to get out and use than my Hoover and it uses less electric!

I have a long handled dustpan and brush and sweep round twice a day.

does anyone have a manual Bissell? the electric one is half price on Lakeland but the reviews are mixed so not sure if I should just get manual, especially as i need something quiet for when dd is asleep

My electric one is quiet, it doesn't wake my 17month old when she naps but I don't use it upstairs much

valiumredhead · 08/10/2013 12:44

I don't actually think it makes much difference what you use, you just need to do it a lot as there will always be crumbs

Mum2Fergus · 08/10/2013 18:52

Electric Bissel here too...love it! In fact, can't remember last time I used Hoover...plus DS loves running it over the floor picking up too...bonus Grin

Do you have a large-ish kitchen? Ours is largely crumb-free as I do a quick sweep with a dustpan and brush regularly, but it's also a very small kitchen so I understand it might not be as practical for others.

We also have an E-Cloth mop, I use it around most of the flat (mainly laminate) and bought the duster head. It's huge, so it's pretty quick at picking stuff up. Any larger bits that don't stick to the head are quickly swept up with the dustpan and brush - that is, the head picks up most and then the few bits leftover will be swept all together on the floor, just not attached to the head.

Delasi I just used the ecloth duster head this afternoon in the bedroom, it was good for under cupboards and picking up fine layers of dust but not do great for o

Our kitchen which is biggish as linked with dining room and we have two dc who make a mess!

I think electric bissell is sounding good although I have now seen reviews for the gtech which looks good too..

Oh well, there goes that theory!

I have in the past considered a Dustbuster, holding fire as I think the E Cloth mop is fine for our little place for now, but apparently the 18V on this model makes a big difference to the power and it's supposed to be really good. It folds or stores compact (something like that), whip it out, suck up some bits, done.

But I've not actually used it Blush Watching this thread now for future tips!

I've got a manual carpet sweeper, it's great on my carpet but hopeless on the wood floor.

Chocotrekkie · 08/10/2013 22:45

Roomba (robot Hoover) Mine goes round every morning and cleans all the floors while I do other useful things candy crush
