Cannot believe I am asking this potato-related question

OK, growing up we had a proper larder, and bought a sack of potatoes every so often: all good.

When I left home I bought them in the supermarket when I needed them and therefore only ever had a couple of potatoes knocking around in the fridge.

Now I get a veg box and we receive more than we can eat, but do get around to using them up eventually. My problem is this:

How do I store them? In what? The fridge is out because there are too many. I have no larder. Veg rack is out because let's face it, veg racks are horrible. At the moment they are in their bags, in a canvas shopping bag on the floor. Is there some sort of holy grail of potato storage that I have never learned of?!

I suppose it depends how much space and money you want to give over to the solution. You could try something like this, this or if you have money to burn then there's this

Mine are stored in garage, in a heavy-duty paper potato-bag, which lives in a plastic-y bin designed for recycling glass. Potatoes can freeze if not stored in second container, plus it excludes light.
One tiny kitchen had large bottom drawer with holes drilled for air-flow, ideal for all veg.

wicker basket is good as it allows air to circulate and prevents then getting sweaty. paper sack or carboard box will do.

They must be kept in the dark

Keep cool but not frozen.

In winter the garage will be OK.

You can keep enough for a day or two in teh salad drawer of teh fridge.
