Slug in the sink. What to do? Would a plumber help?

We moved into this house in August and yesterday I found a slug in the kitchen sink. There were no slug trails and I don't know where we have holes to the outside. I'm assuming it came in through the waste pipe.

Now, our sink does leak a bit. We have a washing up bowl under the sink to catch the water and we think a connection leaks a bit. We kept forgetting to deal with it. DH now thinks we need a plumber urgently to seal all leaks so more slugs don't come in. I don't think a slug could have fit through a tiny hole under the sink and it would have to get inside first anyway. I don't know what to do because after some unexpected expenses and other priorities (I'm 37 weeks pregnant) I don't really want to call a plumber unless it's an emergency.

What should we do? Do I need to call a plumber today? Does anyone have experience with slugs coming inside? I'm horrified.

Sorting the leak out wont sort out if a slug comes up the waste. They just sometimes do, the same as sometimes a spider does in the bath.

The leaks do needs sorting eventually. Im guessing it would cost you around just under £100. That includes parts.

That's reassuring. Thank you.

We have always been planning to sort out the leak. £100 is less than I thought it would cost.

Slugs do come in now and again, just like spiders do. Nothing to be done except keep plug in if you ate really freaked out. I take it you've never lived abroad? All manner of creepy crawlies come in via the plug holeGrin

I would have dealt with a spider much better than this. Slugs are a special hate/fear of mine.

Im not sure where you mean by abroad. I'm from Canada but have never had a slug in a kitchen!

Have you washed any lettuce in the sink recently? That's normally how slugs appear in my kitchen!

Sorry, as usual I presume everyone is posting from the UK like I am and by abroad I meant Europe. Sorry Blush

ananikifo · 03/10/2013 12:08

No, you're right. I'm in the UK. I just have no experience of slugs and they make my skin crawl. I was wondering if you meant places like Australia with big spiders.

Oh Lord, I hate to think what comes up the plug hole in Oz! Shock Grin

When I was in Greece there were always a distinct lack of plugs in sinks so I used to pop a small saucer over the plug hole to keep the bugs out.

Are you still experiencing the slugs in your kitchen sink? If not, how did you solve the issue because im experiencing the same.. And it's horrible since I have a phobia for molluscs especially slugs and snails
