why does my fitted sheet go wrong every night?

What the chuffing hell am I doing wrong that means the head-end corners of the fitted sheets I put on our bed are so prone to un-fitting themselves at night?? I find myself having to remake the bed if I get out for a wee.

king size mattress, extra thick
king size and deep sheet size (i.e. Fit perfectly until bodies are introduced)
also use fitted mattress protector
average sized sleeping occupants i.e. not overweight

any ideas?

Are you me op?! ha! Fucking annoying isn't it?!

bootsycollins · 01/10/2013 09:01

You've answered your question yourself, if the sheets fit perfectly until bodies are introduced then you need deeper sheets. I had the same problem and have recently discovered that Primark fitted sheets are excellent, I've bought loads!. I've previously bought decent sheets from Dunelm which were perfect but pricey so discovering that Primark are the perfect fit was a revelation, they don't feel cheap or bobble and aren't see through either.

Mine too!

Have you made sure that the elastic is under the mattress at the corners? Sorry for the obvious question.

What shop do you buy your sheets from? John Lewis, White Company etc I would expect to be sized properly.

Might it be worth buying super king size?

spottymoo · 01/10/2013 09:53

I buy super king for this very reason was sick if remaking the bed in the night

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 01/10/2013 10:33

Definitely got the elastic right under, and also all the straight sides pulled right down.

would have thought that getting a bigger size would just mean that the fitting elasticated bits are too loose to be effective!

Maybe I need to sew a big button on the mattress corner to hook the sheets onto, and make buttonholes in my sheets obviously.

Sheets are JL and Linea (debenhams) I think. Mattress is Warren Evans.

I know this.

Why there isn't a groovy elastic strap you can clip from side to side underneath I will never know. .

MrsHoratioNelson · 01/10/2013 10:37

What you need are flat sheets. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but they are so much easier than fitted; no more pinging in the night, no more sides of the mattress hanging out, no more shrinking so that you have to wrestle them onto the bed and they last longer because there's no elastic to get shredded by washing. And you can always retuck and smooth them between changes.

Dragons den moment!

MrsHoratioNelson · 01/10/2013 10:38

NotDead you can get these, but what you really need are flat sheets :)

DanielMcSpaniel · 01/10/2013 10:41

This is why I only use flat sheets and hospital corners. Damn sight easier.

KFFOREVER · 01/10/2013 10:42

My nan used to attach the sheet to the mattress with safety pins!

I have the little elastic things with the clips on them - got them from the Kleeneze man Smile they are fab!

sneezecakesmum · 01/10/2013 20:47

i have the same problem but its because I have a mattress, a 2" deep memory foam topper and a deep padded topper on top of the topper Grin

I am like the princess and the pea!

MrsHoratioNelson · 01/10/2013 20:51
