Non moulding toothbrush storage?

Any ideas? We have a mug thing with a hole in the bottom that sits on the sink. It gets quite disgusting and mouldy and the ends of the toothbrushes get mouldy too. I don't want to drill holes in the wall. Is there anything that sits on the sink that wouldn't get like this?

I have this problem. I tried stick on toothbrush holders from Lakeland, but then the floor got wet and the holders got all manky anyway. Have been using pots and dishwashing them as often as I remember, but it isn't ideal.

I bought one of these hoping the bottom would stay dryer because it's more exposed to air. It still needs frequent cleaning but the sight of the bottom of it makes me remember to do clean it more often.

I put a few sheets of toilet paper in the bottom and change it when I clean. Smile

Thank you, good suggestions. Will try the toilet paper idea. Problem is I just don't clean regularly enough really.

I just use a plastic cup and swap it over with another, so I can wash it, every few days. All that mouth goo is going to moulder, whatever you use, unless you wash it regularly.

The toothbrush holders look nice, but where do you put the toothpaste? The loo paper is working well, actually. I change it every few days and it's not been mouldy yet. The mug thing is an awkward shape to wash, but replacing the toilet paper is quick.

I use a heavy ceramic pot which houses toothpaste tube, two electric and one junior toothbrush, and I simply wash it out every time I clean the sink (using the same cleaning product).

Jobs a good un.

Wash it. Clean your brushes and shake them dry before putting away.

fasterthanthewind · 02/10/2013 19:41

I don't understand this problem! Use a mug, put the brushes in all clean and shaken dry, heads up. What can go wrong?

PigletJohn · 02/10/2013 19:57

used toothbrushes benefit from being rinsed in hot water after use. Otherwise they dribble mouth slobber saliva.

philbee · 02/10/2013 22:17

I think the problem is that the thing has a hole in the bottom so water runs out and then gets stuck round the bottom because it's sitting in the soap depression, so it all goes a bit disgusting. Maybe I'll try a normal mug.

We just have plastic cups. They get bunged in the dishwasher, along with the plastic soap dishes, when I clean the bathrooms.
