My washing machine is filthy

I've just notice it has loads of black sludge inside the rubber at the front Shock

How do I get rid of it? Tried bleach & washing liquid but its not shifting it.

Watching with interest, as mine is the same.

LeoTheLateBloomer · 25/09/2013 21:21

Me too :( Sometimes if things get stuck between the door and the rubber during a cycle they come out with black marks on them Blush

Ireallymustbemad · 26/09/2013 20:07

Snap!

boatclub · 26/09/2013 20:11

Same here. I lamely dab at it with some kitchen towel.

CuriosityCola · 26/09/2013 20:52

I have the same problem. Waiting to hear from landlords in the hope of replacing parts or some kind of service that involves a clean.

In the mean time, keeping the door open to let the area dry, using powder rather than liquid and doing an empty wash with white vinegar seems to have helped.

sonlypuppyfat · 26/09/2013 20:55

Are you only doing cool washes? Because they are not hot enough to kill germs. My whites go in at 90 I never have a smelly machine

KittyMcAllister · 26/09/2013 20:57

I have found a paste of bicarbonate of soda works well, as does doing regular hot washes on an empty drum and leaving to air dry,

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 21:17

Scrub at it sad much as you can and then hot wash with soda crystals-half a bag in the drum.

Only using washing powder definitely helps.

stretch · 26/09/2013 21:34

Can you really use white wind vinegar? I used it once and it STUNK for weeks after. I was told to do a 90 wash, with bio powder, empty drum.

stretch · 26/09/2013 21:39

*wine, apologies. I have had too much wine obviously. Smile

Pollydon · 26/09/2013 21:43

90degree wash with bleach. Kim & Aggie tip Wink

Grittzio · 26/09/2013 21:48

I've had this too, I have done a wash with bleach but also find white wine vinegar is good. I have also reverted back to powder or the powder tablets as the washing liquid tabs tend to make the problem worse.

mercibucket · 26/09/2013 21:52

1 spray the inside rubber bit with bleach and brush the mould off

2 buy a cleaning product for the washing machine and run it through on a hot wash

3 buy powder and use at least once a week in the drawer part

4 clean the drawer and check for mould there as well

NothingsLeft · 27/09/2013 11:22

Good to hear I'm not alone!

Do a mix if 40 & 60 degree washes mostly and use liquid so will stop that.

Just been scrubbing off what I can. There bloody loads of it & it's truly gross.

Going to run a 90 wash with calgon. Where would I put the bleach/bicarb, in the draw?

Does bleach not stay on the machine somehow and ruin your clothes? That's my worry that has stopped me doing it.

That's my worry imust would be gutted if clothes got ruined.

How much vinegar did you use winter ?

I cleaned the draw and was Shock at the state of it. I do clean it every few months but its much worse since changing to liquid washing stuff. I wonder why.

valiumredhead · 28/09/2013 16:55

No way would I put bleach in my machine!

delasi · 28/09/2013 18:52

Agree with an empty bio hot wash - afaik they're recommended to be done monthly if you're doing cool/liquid detergent washes.

Also, after emptying the laundry from the machine I always soak up all of the water that collects in/under the seal, I also leave the machine door open. That goes quite some way to prevention of the door grime I think.
