Grease ( not the nice musical kind either)

When I found out I was pg with dc3 I made DH agree that we would get the oven professionally cleaned and keep it so, as it was always greasy and sticky and smelled.

We had it done when DD2 was about 8 weeks old, it took a long time for him to get around to it.

When it had been done I threw out all the old nasty greasy baking trays and roasting dishes and got new ones, but we are back where we started.

DD2 is nearly 6 months (so 4 months on) and while I have been washing roasting dishes, baking trays etc after using them he clearly hasn't.

I've been and still am quite poorly at the moment and am being investigated for a whole host of health issues which means that a lot of the cooking is falling to him.

I have just been to put the oven on and found the Yorkshire pudding tray from Sunday still in the oven all greasy and full of oil and 2 dirty baking sheets as well as a ceramic roasting dish covered in filth & grease.

This is really starting to get me down, DH has ruined 2 silicon muffin tins with his Yorkshire pudding making, meaning that they can't be used for muffins anymore because everything comes out tasting greasy.

I have tried using soda crystals and very hot water to cut through the grease, but it didn't seem to work.

Does anyone have any hints or tips about either how to get everything ungreasey again or how to reduce the grease.

I already use baking paper on the baking trays and throw it once a week, and I wash up the baking trays after every use, where possible.

Is it just lack of respect on DH's part for my request?

Please help me degrease my oven Sad

Two suggestions....

  1. Buy disposable foil trays for DH to use, then it doesn't matter what grease is on them or...
  1. Get this stuff from Lakeland and use it to clean the oven and any muffin/ baking trays you have. Its good stuff. I've rescued some seriously greasy trays from being thrown.

(Disclaimer - not sure if you'd be able to rescue silicone baking stuff - maybe worth a try if the bin is the only other option)

Or do both the above!

Good luck. Hope they find out whats wrong with you, and you get help soon.

Eat simply (salads, sarnies, beans on toast etc) at home and get take away/go out (possibly to family/friends rather than restaurants if you're needing to take things easy) or use ready made puddings etc for 'big' meals.

Seriously, there may be times you can change your OH's habits. But when you're unwell with a newborn isn't likely one of them.

If he wasn't brought up to clean these things properly it will take a lot to make a change. Be gentle with yourself/selves at the moment.
