Do you service your boiler every year?

I normally do mine every summer to stop the heating breaking down in the middle of winter and having to pay a fortune/ go cold. I haven't done it this year.

Is it necessary to service your boiler every year or is that what companies say to get you to spend more
Money???

Yes it's about £60 all in with an independent plumber. The service agreements are not worth the paper they are written on according to him, touch wood all has been ok so far!
The CM issue is enough to justify the cost in my opinion, especially with young DC.

It depends on the boiler. The boiler in our last house was old and unreliable. We once had to get British Gas out on a freezing Easter Sunday. They came, they repaired and left. Result - hot water and a warm house. I doubt I would have been able to get a plumber out that day. We certainly got our money's worth from them when we lived there.

I've had 3 combi boilers. None has ever gone a year without breaking down. I've always had annual services.
Modern boilers cost so much in repairs that they are far less economical than the simpler old ones.

I've had 2 valliant boilers, one was still going strong when we moved, nothing went wrong with it. One we have now is 5 or 6 years and it's fine. Being serviced next week I booked it today!

Our bills reduced considerably as well after they were fitted.

Servicing the boiler is the one thing we're very efficient at organising. Michael Barrymore's identical twin comes around to do it. You only need one extended period in winter with 4 kids and no heating or hot water to start paying attention to servicing.

We get our boiler serviced every year without fail and the gentleman also bleeds our radiators. Our boiler is two years old and we have had no problems with it. (touch wood!!!! ) We have a conventional boiler though.

I've just booked my boiler service thanks to this thread. BUT, I was wondering how much you all pay? I've had to pay £120... and that seems extortionate to me. I'm in London.
