I feel silly asking this but where does everything go if you don't use the all in one tablets i.e. seperate powder, rinse aide and salt?

I've heard using the tabs all the time is no good for your machine so I bought everything seperate but don't know where to put it or how much to use!

Salt goes in the round hole in the bottom of the machine. Unscrew the cap and pour in until it displaces all or most of the water in there. Be careful not to spill it as it will dissolve on the next wash and ruin your cutlery.

Rinse aid goes in a wee round hole in the door, next to the bit you put the tablet or powder in. Pour in until you cant get any more in. theres usually an indicator that gets lighter in colour as the rinse aid decreases to inidcate you need to fill up. I sort of wiggle the door to get the rinse aid in, and air out.

It is better for your machine and your dishes to use separate products, as rinse aid needs to be released at the end of the wash to help the drying process, rather than be released with the soap in the all in one tablet.

Like the washing machine, your dishwasher will benefit from the filter being removed and rinsed under the tap, replaced, and a hot wash run on an empty machine every now and again.

if that doesn't work, and you have lost the instruction book, find out the make and model (might be written on it somewhere, for example the top edge of the door) as you can usually download them from the maker's website.

Pigletjohn could have explained it much better than me I'm sure. What with my vague descriptions of wee round holes. Blush

I didn't mean that!

there might be a button to release the flap for the rinse aid.

After filling the salt, run a rinse cycle and it will wash away the spilled salt.

Thank you both!

finally, all-in-one tabs are a waste of money as they don't do what they say. Get cheapo salt (must be dishwasher salt) rinse aid and tabs from Lidl, Aldi or Wilkinson. Will be about 1/3 of the price of supermarket items, let alone the ones that get advertised.
