I have forgotten to go to parents evening. Is there any hope for me, would a Dodo pad sort me out ?

Went to bed and just realised that I have managed to forget DD's parents evening, which is pathetic and I really need to impose some order into this house. Organised Mum calender hasn't made it up onto the wall since the wall it was on got knocked down and I found that really I needed something more portable. Would a Dodo pad help a complete lost cause like me ? And I am tempted to order their Household book, anyone tried that ? And can I lie to DD's teacher and say my babysitting arrangements fell through at the last minute or do I need to be honest as my punishment for being rubbish ?

sorry, don't know about the reat, but be honest with DD's teacher (although I'm probably too late now!) otherwise she'll just be left thinking even worse of you for not having the manners to phone and postpone the meeting! good luck with organising yourself - i don't think they've invented the contraption that can save me yet!

We had the Organised Mum calendar, but it was in an awkward place and kept fogetting to put stuff on it. Switched to their 'Life Book' - daft name, but fab product. Also got the 'faux leather cover ' and just keep the book on the side of the kitchen. EVERYTHING goes into it, and I've found ti really fab. The DSs and DH know to look to find otu what's going on. And everyone has now got into the habit of writing down things on the shopping list when we run out. The 2007 one isn't out yet, but will be in July and I'll be first to order I reckon. And this from the mum who sent her child to school in school uniform.........on the only 'mufti day' of the year... That was pre the Life Book though!

foxinsocks · 26/06/2006 12:31

I had never heard of a Dodo pad - they look good!

it's probably better to be honest to dd's teachers - they will probably have more sympathy for you!

foxinsocks · 26/06/2006 12:32

here's the dodo pad with a picture of Miss Enid!

trinityrhino · 26/06/2006 12:32

whats dodo stuff???, where can I see it???

Medea · 26/06/2006 12:39

Well I've done that, too, kittypicklemissed a parents' nightso you're not alone.

I've found an ordinary diary works OK--preferably a large hard-backed one with an easy-to-spot colour. Keep it in more or less the same place, but can be transported too. Just you must remember to write things down in it, and look in it from time to time.

Gameboy · 06/07/2006 11:07

Just thought I'd come back to this thread to say I've just had an email advising me that all the 2007 Organised Mum products are now on sale.

See Organised Mum . Ive just ordered my new 'Life Book' to put all next school terms's info into (perfect, 'cos they start from Sept 2006)! It's worth ordering early - particularly if you want a particular diary or calendar, I seem to remember they went quickly last year.

housemum · 06/07/2006 12:19

Had never heard of Organised Mum but THANK YOU - have just ordered the large diary as it is exactly what I have been looking for (had looked at office type diaries in Staples but they were really expensive or cheap & nasty - this looks as if it just invites you to write in it!)

Gameboy · 06/07/2006 15:25

Housemum - I felt EXACTLY the same way! Once my eldest was in school and youngest at nursery I just kept getting lost in all the events/ reminders/ parties etc etc.

I'd tried various 'family' calendars etc but there was never enough space for everything. I started using the Organised Mum 'Life Book' last year and it really has revolutionised our life . It just means there is now 'one place' wehere EVERYTHING goes, and my DH and the kids are under strict instructions on how to use it.My eldest now even reads it out at breakfast and goes through sticking the stickers on anything he considers an 'important day' (i.e. anything with HIS name against it!!)

Anyway, glad it's what you wanted - I'll confess to being a bit evangelical about them!

tassis · 06/07/2006 15:43

so the new Life Book for next year starts in Sept 2006??

Looks good...

housemum · 06/07/2006 15:47

Thanks Gameboy - the only snag will be the husband training (he of the "I told you about this months ago....." when what he actually means is that he vaguely mentioned he might be out somewhere between 7th & 9th July - turns out he's out all 3 days - means that I am trying to get 2 kids to 2 different places at once as well as dropping off youngest to sitter to go out in evening & hoping he's back on time - know this isn't the palce to whinge - grrrrrrr

Gameboy · 06/07/2006 15:49

I LOVE the shopping list bit on the side, and this year they have even perforated it! It means if there is say, a party, or a school trip etc in the diary you can add what you need to the shopping list for the week before or same week - inspired! I was always losing the 'backs of envelopes DH insisted on writing shopping list reminders on.... grr

Gameboy · 06/07/2006 15:50

How weird! I typed the "grr bit before I saw your message!!

housemum · 06/07/2006 16:52

My Dodo has arrived and sits faithfully by my desk and to my amazement I am actually looking at it. I made it to a meeting today that I am sure I would have forgotten before and finding it really helpful. The Household book has arrived but I haven't had time to sort that. Glad to know I'm not the only one who forgot parents evening !

Well, I've been called some things in my time I don't have as much time as I used to for mumsnetting. But I like to think of what I do now as "popping in" rather than "lurking" !!! Sounds friendlier somehow.
