Anyone got an electric steam oven and an induction hob?

Hi, been looking at new kitchens today an am now thinking of going electric instead of gas.............big decision for me after 35yrs of cooking!! The sales lady showed me an AEG steam oven, looked amazing, then moved on to induction hobs. Must say the ease of cleaning one appeals after my gas one! But I know nothing about them, so would value your opinions :)

I have an induction hob which I love. Took a bit of getting used to as had only cooked on gas before. Very easy to keep clean.

I also have a steam oven but haven't really used it much. I do intend to start using it more though! Grin

I have a Meile induction hob and it is very responsive to being turned up or down so the most like gas you can buy. Very easy to keep clean but the hob gets hotter than I was led to believe although that has not bothered me. It takes a large array of pan sizes but, you must buy pans that are made for an induction hob or they will not work. Also some pans need to be slightly larger than the heat ring size, but not all brands. I have found my Jamie Oliver non stick pan must be on a size slightly smaller than the pan but the John Lewis own brand are more forgiving and, to be honest, the better pans. You may have to dich your existing pans. It is a very clean way to cook. I do not have a steam over as I use a steamer which fits over one of my pans and the lid then fits onto that. These ovens can be expensive and I have gone for 2 main ovens, brilliant when doing a dinner party, family lunch etc. Induction hobs are quite expensive but worth every penny. For what it's worth I also have two fridges. They have slightly different functions but it is amazing how often they are full! I cut down on freezing capacity because I actually don't freeze that much anymore but my twin fridges are brilliant.

I love my induction hob, it's only a zanussi but its brilliant.

No more dismantling the hob to clean it.

We recently went from gas to induction hobs and they're great. Similar responsiveness and so much easier to clean. More efficient than other electric hobs.

Yes you need pans with a base a magnet will stick too but they're not hard to find and don't have to be expensive.

Not sure about steam ovens. We went for a rangemaster with 2 ovens (multifunction and fan) and I love it.

Thanks for all the info, I am quite confused now as to what I want. I think maybe I am abit afraid of going down the electric route after cooking with gas on my lovely old range cooker. I must get it right as I cant see me changing the kitchen again, too old and Ill have no money!! I too have two fridges Blackmogul, invaluable in my house, also have two freezers. We have an allotment so the second freezer is pile with our surplus, just frozen 10 lbs raspberries!! Some of the best machines we have had have been Zanussi, our first dishwasher lasted 18yrs!

My mum has an induction and I love cooling on it. Very responsive, easy to clean. Plus I got all her old pans to set up when I went to uni when she bought ones that would work on the hob.

I love my Bosch induction hob, remember you might have to buy new saucepans for it to work - we had to!
